Used Meta glasses: the private-seller checklist
Search for used Meta glasses and you get eBay, Facebook Marketplace and a wall of pre-owned listings, not advice. This is the checklist we would use on a private seller, built from Meta's own help and warranty pages: how to confirm the generation, why the warranty does not come with the glasses, what the battery question really is, and the reset that has to happen at handover. Then the sum a bargain hunter should do before paying anything.

What you actually find when you search for used Meta glasses
On October 7, 2026 the Google results for this search were, in order: an eBay page of Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer listings, a Facebook Marketplace post, a Reddit travel thread, an Oakley Meta Vanguard listing on a resale site and a block of pre-owned shopping results. No review, no guide, no manufacturer page. The pre-owned prices on that day ran from $74.99 for a Gen 1 described as for parts and not working to $319.95 for a Gen 2 with its case; working Gen 1 pairs sat mostly between $171.99 and $294.99. Those are listings we saw that day, not a market price, and they will have changed by the time you read this.
The point of quoting them is the comparison they invite. On the same day Meta’s own refurbished store listed the Gen 1 Wayfarer from $197and the Gen 1 Skyler from $227, each described as backed by a one-year limited warranty, and the new Gen 2 Wayfarer was $379 on its product page. A used Gen 1 at $255 with no warranty is dearer than a refurbished Gen 1 with one. That is the first filter: a used pair is worth looking at when it is clearly below Meta’s refurbished price for the same generation. Everything below is what to check once a listing passes it.
1. Pin down the generation before anything else
Ray-Ban Meta frames share names across generations. A Wayfarer can be a Gen 1 or a Gen 2, and the two look alike in a listing photo. The price difference between them is where most of the money in a used deal lives, so settle it first.
- Ask for the exact product nameas it appears in the seller’s Meta AI app, and for a photo of the serial number. Meta’s help page says it is printed on the inside of the left temple, and that the app shows it under Device settings, General, About. A seller who will not photograph the temple is a seller to skip.
- Check the battery claim against Meta’s own figures.Meta’s styles page (checked October 7, 2026) lists the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 at up to 4 hours, the Gen 2 at up to 8 hours of use and the Gen 3 at up to 9 hours on a single charge. A seller describing a pair that lasts about four hours as a Gen 2 has the generation wrong, or the battery is worn, and either answer matters to you.
- Know what new costs. On October 7, 2026 Meta’s Gen 1 Wayfarer page showed $247 and was out of stock, pointing buyers to the refurbished store; the Gen 2 Wayfarer was $379. Our Gen 1 vs Gen 2 guide lists what changed between them, and the price snapshottracks Meta’s list prices.
2. The warranty stays with the first buyer
This is the part most listings leave out. Meta publishes its limited warranty for the Americas at meta.com/legal/limited-warranty. Read on October 7, 2026, it runs one year from purchase or delivery, whichever is later, and it says who may claim: someone who purchased the product, or received it as a gift, from Meta or an authorized seller. It then says, in those words, that the warranty is non-transferable to the extent permitted by law, and its exclusions include products that are used or resold, except Meta’s own refurbished products.
In practice that means a private seller cannot hand you the warranty with the glasses. Even where a Ray-Ban aftersales claim is attempted, Meta’s claim guide says you need the product serial number and proof of purchase, such as the order confirmation or receipt, and that the warranty typically covers hardware malfunctions not caused by damage, battery issues and charging problems, not accidental damage or wear. Meta’s help centre also points to meta.com/my/devices for warranty status, behind a Meta account login. If the seller is willing, ask them to check that page and tell you the purchase date; it tells you how old the pair is even though the cover will not follow it. Meta’s warranty text also mentions a separate out-of-warranty programme; we have not priced it and do not quote it. The full claim process is in our Meta glasses warranty guide.
3. The battery question, and why there is no number to check
Everyone asks about battery health on a used phone because the phone reports it. Meta publishes no battery-health readout, cycle count or percentage for its glasses on any of the help pages we read, so there is no figure to ask for and no screenshot that settles it. What you can do is measure. Ask the seller to charge the glasses fully, note the time, play audio and take a few photos and clips at normal volume, and tell you when the low-battery warning appears. Then compare that with Meta’s figure for the generation: up to 4 hours for Gen 1, up to 8 for Gen 2.
Bear in mind what the warranty text says about batteries even for the original owner: they are listed among consumable parts expected to diminish over time, covered when the failure is due to a materials or workmanship defect. A used pair that already lasts half its rated time has no route to a replacement under warranty. The charging case is part of the same question. The glasses charge in it, so a listing without the case, or with a case that will not hold a charge, is a listing for half a product. Our Meta glasses battery life guide has the per-generation figures in one place.
4. Unpair and factory reset at handover
Meta’s pairing troubleshooting page says that glasses previously paired to a different phone need a factory reset before they will pair with a new one. So the reset is not a courtesy; it is the step that makes the glasses usable on your account at all. Meta publishes both procedures, and it is worth doing them together with the seller, or asking for a video of them being done, before money changes hands.
- Unpair (Meta help): in the Meta AI app, tap the Glasses icon, then Device settings, select the glasses, tap General, choose Unpair and confirm. Meta notes that unpairing does not change or erase any settings, and that the seller may also need to tap Forget for the glasses in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Factory reset the glasses (Meta help): with the glasses out of the case, charged and powered on, fold both arms, press the capture button five times until the LED turns orange, then press and hold it and release when the LED flashes. Meta says this returns the glasses to factory settings and deletes all photos and videos on them.
- Reset the charging case: take the glasses out and hold the button on the back of the case for more than 16 seconds.
- Then pair them yourself, on the spot if you are meeting in person. A pair that completes setup in your own Meta AI app is a pair that was properly released; a pair that will not is the problem you would otherwise discover at home.
One more reason to insist on the reset: whatever the previous owner captured stays on the glasses until it is done. If the seller cannot or will not do it, walk away; a locked pair is not a bargain at any price.
The seller checklist in one place
Copy this into the message thread. A seller who answers all of it is the one to buy from.
- Exact product name and generation, plus a photo of the serial number inside the left temple (where it is).
- Purchase date and where it was bought. The warranty will not transfer, but the age tells you how worn the battery is likely to be.
- Timed battery resultfrom a full charge to the low-battery warning, with the generation’s figure from Meta’s styles page as the benchmark.
- Charging case and cable included, and the case holds a charge.
- Photos of the lenses and the camera window in raking light. A scratch over the camera appears in every photo and does not polish out.
- Agreement to unpair and factory reset at handover, glasses and case, with you pairing them before you pay.
- A short test: a photo, a clip, a minute of audio and a phone call, all on your own phone after pairing.
- Payment with buyer protection if you are not meeting in person. If a seller insists on a method with no recourse, that is your answer.
- Is it actually a Meta product? Some listings borrow Ray-Ban Meta styling without being made by Meta; our Meta glasses dupe guide has six checks.
Used Gen 1 vs a new OXIVUE M08 at $99
Now the sum. Many people searching for used Meta glasses are not committed to Meta; they want camera glasses with audio for less than Meta charges new. If that is you, compare the used Gen 1 listings above with a new pair that costs less than nearly all of them. The OXIVUE M08 is listed at $149 and costs $99 at checkout as a single pair. It is a different product from a different company, works with the HeyCyan phone app rather than Meta’s, and has no Meta AI.

Prices checked 2026-10-07; checkout price may change. Two or more pairs in one order are 50% off all eyewear, so two M08 come to $149. Free shipping starts at $99, which a single pair meets. The comparison page has every OXIVUE model side by side, and our Ray-Ban Meta alternatives guide covers the wider field.
Who should still buy used
Buy used if you specifically want Meta’s assistant and its sharing into Meta’s apps, you have found a pair well below Meta’s refurbished price for that generation, and the seller passes the checklist. If the price is close to refurbished, take the refurbished pair and its one-year warranty instead; our refurbished Meta glasses guide covers what Meta’s programme includes and the cheap Meta glasses guidecovers every other way to pay less. If you came here because camera glasses at Meta’s price felt unreasonable, a new M08 at $99 with a fresh battery and two years of cover is the simpler purchase.
Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days; international orders take 9–14 business days, to 39 countries, with import taxes paid by the recipient outside the US. OXIVUE does not offer refunds except for an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement. None of our frames take prescription lenses. Full terms on the warranty and refund policy pages.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy used Meta glasses?
Yes. On October 7, 2026 the search results for used Meta glasses were eBay listings, Facebook Marketplace posts and Google shopping results for pre-owned Ray-Ban Meta frames. Nothing stops a private sale. What changes is the cover: Meta's limited warranty text says it is non-transferable and excludes products that are used or resold, other than Meta's own refurbished units. So a used pair is a pair without a manufacturer warranty, and the checks in this guide are how you protect yourself instead.
Can you sell used Meta glasses?
Yes, and the seller's job is to hand them over clean. Meta's help pages describe two steps: unpair the glasses from the Meta AI app (Glasses icon, Device settings, your glasses, General, Unpair), then factory reset them, which Meta says deletes all photos and videos on the glasses. Meta's pairing guide also says glasses previously paired to a different phone need a factory reset before they will pair again. Include the charging case and cable, and photograph the serial number inside the left temple for the listing.
Is a used Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 cheaper than Meta's refurbished Gen 1?
Not reliably. A used pair only makes sense when its price is clearly below Meta's own refurbished price and the seller lets you verify generation, reset and battery before paying. On October 7, 2026 Meta's refurbished store listed Gen 1 Wayfarers from $197 with a one-year limited warranty, while the used Gen 1 listings that ranked for this search were mostly between $171.99 and $294.99. A used pair near $197 with no warranty is a worse deal than the refurbished one. If what you want is camera glasses rather than Meta's ecosystem, a new OXIVUE M08 is $99 at checkout with a 2-year warranty.
How can I get Meta glasses for free?
We know of no legitimate way. Listings or posts that promise free Meta glasses in exchange for a form, a deposit or account details are the pattern to avoid, and so are marketplace listings priced far below the rest, which on October 7, 2026 meant anything well under the $171.99 shown by the lowest-priced working used Gen 1 listing. If a pair is described as for parts or not working, as one $74.99 listing was, treat it as spares, not glasses.
Does the Meta warranty transfer to a second owner?
Meta's published limited warranty for the Americas says it is non-transferable to the extent permitted by law, that a claimant must have purchased the product, or received it as a gift, from Meta or an authorized seller, and that products which are used or resold are excluded unless they are Meta's own refurbished units. A claim also needs the serial number and dated proof of purchase. Our guide to the Meta glasses warranty goes through the claim process in full.
How do I factory reset Ray-Ban Meta glasses from a previous owner?
Meta's help page gives the sequence: with the glasses out of the case, charged and powered on, fold both arms, press the capture button five times until the LED turns orange, then press and hold it and release when the LED flashes. For the charging case, take the glasses out and hold the button on the back for more than 16 seconds. Meta says the reset deletes all photos and videos on the glasses and that you then pair them again in the Meta AI app.
Which generation am I looking at?
Ask for the exact product name and a photo of the serial number inside the left temple, then compare the seller's battery claim with Meta's own figures: on its styles page Meta lists Gen 1 at up to 4 hours, Gen 2 at up to 8 hours of use and Gen 3 at up to 9 hours (checked October 7, 2026). A seller calling a 4-hour pair a Gen 2 is either mistaken or not. Our Gen 1 vs Gen 2 guide lists the other differences.
What does a new OXIVUE M08 cost, and what if something goes wrong?
The M08 is listed at $149 and costs $99 at checkout as a single pair, with free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5 to 9 business days and international orders in 9 to 14 business days, to 39 countries. No refunds except transit damage (replaced or refunded); faults are repaired or replaced under the 2-year warranty; change of mind and unmet expectations are not refundable.
What these frames won’t do
- No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
- No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
- Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
- Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
- M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
