Meta glasses battery life: every model, the case, and what drains it.

How long Meta glasses last depends on which pair you have: Meta's own figures run from 4 hours on the original Ray-Ban Meta to 12 hours on the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio. Every Meta number on this page was read off meta.com on September 30, 2026. We have not run battery tests on Meta glasses ourselves, so where Meta does not publish a figure, we say so.

Meta glasses battery life by model

Meta publishes a battery figure on every product page, and the numbers vary more than most people expect. Here they are side by side, as listed on meta.com on September 30, 2026. “Per charge” is the glasses alone; “from the case” is the extra charge a full case holds.

ModelPer chargeFrom the caseCharge time Meta lists

The Display figure comes from the comparison block on its product page; the FAQ answer that likely holds its case figure would not open in our browser, so we left that cell empty rather than guess. Two patterns are worth noticing. Battery life roughly doubled from Gen 1 to Gen 2, which Meta itself describes as “2x the battery life.” And the longest-lasting model, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, is the one without a camera, which tells you where the power goes. For prices on all of these, see our Meta glasses price guide.

Ray-Ban Meta battery life, Gen 1 to Gen 3

Most people searching for Meta glasses battery life own a Ray-Ban Meta, so here is that family on its own. If you are not sure which generation you have, the battery is a clue: a pair that has never come close to 8 hours, even when new, is likely a Gen 1.

  • Gen 1 (2023): up to 4 hours per charge; Meta lists up to 36 hours in total with a fully charged case, which itself holds up to 32 hours.
  • Gen 2: up to 8 hours per charge, 19 hours in standby, plus up to 48 more hours from the case. Meta says it reaches 50% in 20 minutes.
  • Gen 3 (announced September 2026): up to 9 hours per charge plus 50 hours from the case, and the same 50% in 20 minutes.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 share the same charging case, according to Meta’s Gen 2 page. For the full generation comparison, including camera and price, see Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 vs Gen 1.

Meta glasses charging case: how many recharges, how fast

Every Meta pair ships with a charging case, and the case is what turns a 4-to-9-hour pair into something that lasts a weekend. Dividing Meta’s case figure by its per-charge figure gives a rough number of full refills: about 6 for Gen 2 (48 ÷ 8), about 5 or 6 for Gen 3 (50 ÷ 9), about 5 for Meta Glasses (40 ÷ 8), and about 4 for Vanguard (36 ÷ 9). That is our arithmetic, not a Meta figure, and real refills come out lower because some energy is lost in transfer.

The practical takeaway is that the case does the work, so it needs charging too. Meta says the Gen 1 and HSTN cases take 3.5 hours to charge fully over USB-C, and several Meta pages note the cable is not included in the box. Meta also warns on its Oakley pages that the charging case is not water resistant, even where the glasses are.

Why your Meta glasses battery drains so fast

The number on the product page is a typical-use figure, and Meta is open about what that means. On the Oakley Meta Vanguard page, it says its battery claims are approximate, were measured on pre-production hardware, and assume a mixed day: 30 Meta AI interactions, 13 photos, five 90-second videos, a 10-minute hyperlapse, a 30-minute autocapture session, 17 messages, 30 notifications, 120 minutes of audio and 5 minutes of calls. If your day looks heavier than that, your battery will run out sooner.

The clearest evidence is Meta’s own split for Vanguard: up to 9 hours of typical use, but up to 6 hours of continuous audio. Anything you do continuously costs more than the mixed-use number suggests. In rough order, the heavy users of a charge are:

  1. Video, especially 3K.Meta’s POV guide advises sticking with 1080p for longer recordings to save battery and storage.
  2. Continuous audio. An hour of music or podcasts is an hour of the speakers and radio running without a break.
  3. Long AI and video sessions. Autocapture, hyperlapse and video calls keep the camera and connection busy for minutes at a time.
  4. Importing media. Moving photos and videos to your phone uses the wireless radios.
  5. Age. Like any lithium battery, the cell holds less as it ages, so a pair bought in 2023 will not match its launch figure.

How long can Meta glasses record on one charge?

Meta does not publish a continuous-recording battery figure for any model, so any exact number you see elsewhere is not Meta’s. What Meta does publish is the clip limit: up to 3 minutes per clip on most models and up to 5 minutes on Oakley Meta Vanguard, with longer hyperlapse modes. Our guide on how long Meta glasses can record has the clip limits, settings and the hyperlapse and autocapture modes in detail.

How to extend Meta glasses battery life

None of these are obscure settings; they are habits that line up with what Meta says drains the battery.

  1. Put them back in the case. The case is the battery pack. Short top-ups through the day add up, and Meta says Gen 2 and Gen 3 reach 50% in 20 minutes.
  2. Record at 1080p unless you need 3K.This is Meta’s own advice for longer recordings.
  3. Keep clips short. Set the maximum video length in the Meta AI app to what you actually use.
  4. Turn the volume down a notch. Continuous audio is the drain Meta quantifies most clearly.
  5. Import in batches. Moving media to your phone once, rather than after every clip, keeps the radios idle more of the day.
  6. Keep the case charged, and the glasses out of heat. A flat case cannot help you, and heat is hard on any lithium battery.

Can you replace the battery in Meta glasses?

We could not find a Meta statement saying you can. None of the Meta product pages we read on September 30, 2026 describes a user-replaceable battery or a battery replacement service. What Meta does publish is a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. If a pair inside that year stops holding a charge, contact Meta support rather than opening the frame; for an older pair, the realistic options are living with a shorter day, carrying the case, or replacing the glasses. If you are weighing a used or refurbished pair, battery health is the thing to ask about first.

OXIVUE battery figures, for comparison

We make camera glasses too, so here is how ours are rated, from our own product data. OXIVUE rates listening time and call time separately rather than giving one mixed-use number, so these figures cannot be lined up directly against Meta’s.

FramePriceBatteryListeningCallsCharging
M08$149~300 mAh7 h4 hNot stated
M02C$159~290 mAhNot publishedNot publishedMagnetic pogo
M08C$169~300 mAh7 h4 hNot stated
M14$199300 mAh4 h7 hAbout 2 h

Note that the M14 is not a bigger M08: its battery budget runs the other way, favouring calls over music, which suits a sport frame used for calls on the move. OXIVUE frames have an 8 MP camera, open-ear audio and translation in a free app, with no Meta account. They do not run Meta AI, have no display and cannot take prescription lenses. Every spec is on the comparison page, and our guide to what Meta glasses do shows which features each brand has.

Bottom line

Meta glasses last up to 4 hours (Gen 1), up to 8 (Gen 2, HSTN, Meta Glasses), up to 9 (Gen 3, Vanguard), up to 6 (Display) or up to 12 (Audio) on a charge, by Meta’s own typical-use figures, with the case adding 32 to 50 hours. If yours dies sooner, video, continuous audio and age are the usual reasons. If you want camera glasses rated for a long listening day at a lower price, the OXIVUE M08 at $149 is rated at 7 hours of listening (currently $50 off one pair at checkout, applied automatically); if you live on calls, the M14 at $199 is rated at 7 hours of talk time.

Frequently asked questions

How long do Meta glasses last on one charge?

It depends on the model. On meta.com on September 30, 2026: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 up to 4 hours, Gen 2 up to 8 hours, Gen 3 up to 9 hours, Oakley Meta HSTN up to 8 hours, Oakley Meta Vanguard up to 9 hours of typical use, Meta Glasses such as Adventurer and Fury over 8 hours, Meta Ray-Ban Display up to 6 hours, and the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio up to 12 hours.

What is the Ray-Ban Meta battery life?

Meta rates Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 at up to 8 hours on a charge, 19 hours in standby, and up to 48 more hours from a fully charged case. Gen 3 is up to 9 hours plus 50 from the case. The original Gen 1 is up to 4 hours, or up to 36 hours including the case.

Why is my Meta glasses battery draining so fast?

Usually because of how you are using them. Meta's battery figures are for typical mixed use; Meta says Oakley Meta Vanguard lasts up to 9 hours of typical use but up to 6 hours of continuous audio. Long video clips, 3K recording, continuous music and frequent imports all draw more. An older pair also holds less charge than a new one, as with any lithium battery.

How long can Meta glasses record on one charge?

Meta does not publish a continuous-recording figure for any model. Clips are capped at 3 minutes on most models and 5 minutes on Oakley Meta Vanguard. Meta's own tip is to record at 1080p rather than 3K for longer recordings, to save battery and storage.

How long does the Meta glasses charging case last?

The case adds up to 32 hours on Gen 1, 48 hours on Gen 2, Oakley Meta HSTN and Ray-Ban Meta Audio, 50 hours on Gen 3, 40 hours on Meta Glasses, and 36 hours on Oakley Meta Vanguard, according to meta.com. The Gen 1 and HSTN cases take 3.5 hours to charge fully by USB-C.

How long do Meta glasses take to charge?

Meta says Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Gen 3 reach 50% in 20 minutes in the case. Oakley Meta Vanguard charges fully in 75 minutes, and the Meta Adventurer with the plug-in case reaches 90% in about 75 minutes.

Can you replace the battery in Meta glasses?

None of the Meta product pages we read on September 30, 2026 describes a user-replaceable battery or a battery replacement service. What Meta does publish is a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. If a pair under warranty stops holding a charge, contact Meta support rather than opening the frame.

How long does the OXIVUE battery last?

OXIVUE states about 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls for the M08 ($149) and M08C ($169), from a roughly 300 mAh battery. The M14 ($199) reverses that, at 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls, and takes about 2 hours to charge. These are listening and call figures, not mixed-use figures, so they are not directly comparable with Meta's.
