How long can Meta glasses record? The clip limits, from Meta’s own pages.
Search this question and most answers come from forums and reposts, and they disagree: 60 seconds, 3 minutes, 5 minutes. They are all partly right, because the limit depends on the model, the software and one setting in the app. Here is what Meta itself says, checked September 30, 2026, plus how our own frames compare.

How long Meta glasses record per clip
Meta’s shooting guide gives the answer in two sentences: “By default, your AI glasses record clips for up to 30 seconds. With the Meta AI mobile app, you can extend this to 3 minutes for most devices — or up to 5 minutes with Oakley Meta Vanguard.” (Meta, checked September 30, 2026).
That explains the conflicting answers online. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 launched in 2023 recording 1080p videos of up to 60 seconds. Meta’s release notes for software version 6, dated June 26, 2024, added: “You can now set a maximum video length of up to 3 min.” (release notes). So a Gen 1 owner who never changed the setting, a Gen 2 owner on 3 minutes and a Vanguard owner on 5 minutes will all give you a different number, and all be right about their own pair. The limit is per clip, not a cap on how much Meta glasses recording you can do in a day.

How to change the video length on Meta glasses
Meta’s help centre says maximum video length, frame rate and resolution are all set in the Meta AI mobile app (Meta help centre). The steps it gives:
- Open the Meta AI app on your phone.
- Select your glasses.
- Open Media settings.
- Choose Video settings and set the maximum video length.
The same screen holds resolution and frame rate, except on Gen 1, where Meta says resolution cannot be changed. Meta’s advice on the trade-off: use 3K for detailed scenery or action, and “stick with 1080p for longer recordings or social content to save battery and storage.”
How to make Meta glasses record longer than 3 minutes
There is no setting beyond the model’s maximum, so longer Meta glasses recordings come from three approaches.
- Chain clips. Start a new clip as soon as one ends. You get a short gap between files, which is fine for most sharing.
- Use hyperlapse.Meta’s December 16, 2025 release notes describe a hyperlapse mode that captures action over time for up to 30 minutes, compressed into a short video. Slow motion, added in the same release, records up to 1 minute.
- Use autocapture. On Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Oakley Meta HSTN and Vanguard (not Gen 1), autocapture records short clips during a session and assembles a highlights video afterwards. Meta says most people get the best results from sessions of 15 to 30 minutes (Meta help centre).

Meta glasses battery while recording
Meta rates battery by typical use: up to 4 hours on Gen 1, up to 8 hours on Gen 2 and Oakley Meta HSTN, and up to 9 hours on Oakley Meta Vanguard and Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3. Gen 2’s case adds an additional 48 hours of charging on the go. Meta does not publish how many minutes of continuous video one charge gives, so we will not guess. What Meta does say is that 1080p saves battery and storage compared with 3K, which is the setting to use for a long day of clips.
Do Meta glasses record constantly, and can people tell?
No, not by default. Video starts when you start it and stops at the clip limit. Meta says the white notification LED stays on while you are recording, and when autocapture records a clip, the capture LED turns on and you hear the same capture sound as manual video. Meta also says that if the capture LED is covered, the glasses notify you to clear it before they take a photo or video.

Do Meta glasses constantly record?
Not by default. Video recording starts when you start it, by button or voice, and each clip stops at the length you set. Meta says the white LED stays on while recording. Autocapture, an early-access feature on Gen 2 and Oakley Meta, captures short clips during a session you start, and Meta says the capture LED turns on when it records.
Do Meta glasses record the last 30 seconds?
The Meta pages we checked on September 30, 2026 do not describe a feature that saves the 30 seconds before you press record. The 30 seconds people usually mean is the default clip length: out of the box, Meta glasses record clips of up to 30 seconds, which you can extend in the app.
How long does the Meta glasses battery last?
Meta rates Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 at up to 4 hours, Gen 2 and Oakley Meta HSTN at up to 8 hours of typical use, Oakley Meta Vanguard at up to 9 hours, and Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at up to 9 hours. These are typical-use figures. Meta does not publish a continuous video-recording time, and recording uses battery faster than music or standby.
What resolution do Meta glasses record in?
Meta lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 at 1080p. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Oakley Meta record up to 3K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps, and Meta suggests 1080p for longer recordings to save battery and storage. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 lists 3K Ultra HD video.
Can I change the video length on Meta glasses?
Yes. Meta's help centre says you change maximum video length, frame rate and resolution in the Meta AI mobile app: select your glasses, open Media settings, then Video settings. Resolution cannot be changed on Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1.
