What Meta actually sells refurbished

Short version: Meta runs a refurbished section on its own store, and on September 25, 2026 it listed exactly two models, both first-generation Ray-Ban Meta frames. Each started at $197. Lens choice moves the price: the matte black Wayfarer with clear-to-green Transitions lenses was $227, while the shiny black Skyler with G15 green lenses sat at the $197 floor.

The product pages describe each pair as “rigorously inspected by Meta to function and look like new”, and list the same box contents as a new pair: the glasses, the Ray-Ban Meta charging case and a getting started guide. They also state that the pair is covered by a return policy, which is a real advantage of buying refurbished from Meta rather than from a marketplace seller whose terms you would have to read separately.

How much does refurbished save? Is there a refurbished Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2?

Not from Meta, as of September 25, 2026. Its refurbished section listed Gen 1 frames only. That matters because the generational gap is where most of the price difference in this category lives: on September 2, new Gen 2 Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner frames started at $379, against $224 for the outgoing Gen 1 on sale.

If you find a listing elsewhere calling itself a refurbished Gen 2, three questions decide whether it is worth the money:

1. Who refurbished it?Meta’s inspection statement only applies to pairs sold through Meta’s own programme. A marketplace seller may have done no more than wipe the lenses.
2. Who holds the warranty?Meta’s one-year limited warranty is stated on Meta’s refurbished pages. A reseller’s cover is whatever the reseller writes, and it is worth reading before you pay.
3. Is it actually a Gen 2?The two generations share silhouettes and names. Check the listing states the generation explicitly, and compare it against the product name on Meta’s own pages.

The two things refurbished changes: warranty and battery

Warranty: one year, through Ray-Ban

Meta’s refurbished listing puts it in one line: like-new products backed by a one-year limited warranty. Meta’s warranty help article adds the detail that matters. Warranty typically covers hardware malfunctions not caused by damage, battery issues and charging problems; it does not cover accidental damage such as drops, water damage or scratches, or normal wear and tear. And for Ray-Ban-branded glasses, claims go through the Ray-Ban aftersales portal, not through Meta.

Battery: the one number nobody publishes

A refurbished pair of smart glasses is, underneath the frame, a small sealed battery with an unknown past. Meta’s refurbished product pages say the glasses function like new; they publish no battery health percentage, no charge-cycle count and no battery-life figure. That is not a sign of a problem. It is simply the one thing a refurbished buyer cannot check before paying.

The practical answer is the warranty. Because Meta lists battery issues among the defects its warranty typically covers, a battery that is visibly weaker than it should be inside the first year is a warranty claim, not your loss. After the first year, you are on your own with a cell of unknown age. A new frame starts that clock at zero and, in our case, runs it for two years.
