Meta glasses warranty: who covers what, and how to claim.
The first surprise for many Ray-Ban Meta owners is that Meta does not handle their warranty claim. This guide reads Meta's own warranty pages, dated, and sets out how long the cover lasts, who decides a claim, what is excluded, what Warranty Plus adds and what it costs. Then it compares our own 2-year warranty, including the parts it does not cover.

How long is the Meta glasses warranty?
On the product pages we read on September 30, 2026, every current Meta-branded pair carries a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. For Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and Oakley Meta Vanguard, the wording is that EssilorLuxottica warrants the product free from manufacturing defects in material or workmanship “for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase”. For Meta’s own Meta Glasses line, Meta gives the warranty itself, for 12 months from purchase or delivery.
There is a regional wrinkle. The FAQ on Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 page says the warranty is “only valid for one or two years from purchase, based on the country of purchase”. So the 12 months you see on the US page is the floor, not a global rule. And Meta’s Limited Warranty for its own products, as published for the Americas excluding Mexico and for purchases from July 1, 2026, runs one year from purchase or delivery, whichever is later. Refurbished Ray-Ban Meta from Meta’s store is described as backed by a one-year limited warranty.
| Glasses | Made by | Warranty handled by | Standard length (Meta’s pages) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1, 2, 3) | EssilorLuxottica | Ray-Ban | 12 months; one or two years depending on country |
| Oakley Meta HSTN / Vanguard | EssilorLuxottica | Oakley | 12 months (Vanguard page) |
| Meta Glasses, Meta Ray-Ban Display, Neural Band | Meta | Meta Store Support | 12 months / one year from purchase or delivery |
| Refurbished Ray-Ban Meta (Meta store) | — | Not stated on the listing | One-year limited warranty |
| OXIVUE M08, M02C, M08C, M14 (for comparison) | OXIVUE | OXIVUE, by email | 2 years from the ship date |
Ray-Ban Meta warranty: why Meta isn’t the one handling it
Meta’s warranty-claim help article splits its glasses into two groups. First-party products, made by Meta, are Meta AI Glasses, Meta Ray-Ban Display and the Meta Neural Band. Third-party products, made by EssilorLuxottica, are Ray-Ban Meta (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen), Oakley Meta HSTN and Oakley Meta Vanguard. For the second group, Meta says claims are handled by Ray-Ban or Oakley directly “even if you purchased them from Meta Store”.
In practice that means two different front doors. A Ray-Ban Meta owner files on the Ray-Ban aftersales portal; an Oakley Meta owner files on Oakley’s. Meta notes that both portals are only available in certain countries, and that elsewhere you should follow the local Ray-Ban or Oakley site. If you bought a third-party pair from another retailer, Meta’s service page says to contact that retailer.
What the Meta glasses warranty covers, and what it excludes
Meta’s help article gives a plain-language summary that applies across both groups, with a pointer to each maker’s full terms. The warranty typically covers:
- Hardware malfunctions not caused by damage.
- Battery issues.
- Charging problems.
- Software issues that can’t be resolved through troubleshooting.
It typically does not cover:
- Accidental damage, which Meta spells out as drops, water damage and scratches.
- Normal wear and tear.
- Cosmetic damage that doesn’t affect function.
- Damage from misuse or unauthorised modifications.
Meta’s legal Limited Warranty, which governs its own products, is longer and stricter. It also excludes products that are used or resold (other than refurbished), bought from a seller Meta does not authorise, or bought outside a supported country; damage from exposure to liquids, sunscreen or perfume; damage from replacing parts such as batteries or lenses unless done by Meta or per its documentation; and products that meet their documented function but “do not meet your requirements for any other reason”. One helpful line on the Meta Glasses page: having prescription lenses installed by a professional will not void that warranty.
How to file a Meta glasses warranty claim
These are the steps Meta lists, in order. Meta asks you to troubleshoot before claiming, and its Limited Warranty asks you to describe the troubleshooting you tried.
- Troubleshoot. Update the glasses and the Meta AI app, restart the glasses, then try a factory reset. Meta notes that a reset erases your settings and returns the glasses to their original state.
- Find the serial number and proof of purchase.Your order confirmation email or receipt works. Meta’s help centre has a separate article on locating the serial number.
- Pick the right portal. Ray-Ban Meta: the Ray-Ban aftersales portal. Oakley Meta HSTN or Vanguard: the Oakley aftersales portal. Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta Glasses or a Meta-made accessory such as a charging case: Meta Store Support.
- Describe the fault. On the Ray-Ban and Oakley portals, choose the closest issue and explain it in the details field. For Meta products, Meta’s Limited Warranty asks for a Return Merchandise Authorization with dated proof of purchase, a description of the issue and the troubleshooting you tried.
- Ship it as instructed. For Meta products, the defective unit goes back in its original or equivalent packaging to the address Meta gives you. If a Meta claim turns out not to be covered, the Limited Warranty says Meta may send the product back at your cost or hold it for a limited period for collection.
A warranty claim gets you a repair or a replacement. Anything else is governed by the terms of the store you bought from: Meta’s own store terms for meta.com purchases, and the retailer’s terms for glasses bought from Ray-Ban.com, Oakley.com or elsewhere.
Is the battery covered by the Meta warranty?
Partly. Meta’s help centre lists battery issues and charging problems among what the warranty typically covers. Meta’s own Limited Warranty, though, classes batteries as consumable parts “expected to diminish over time” and excludes them unless the failure is due to a materials or workmanship defect. In other words: a battery that suddenly stops holding charge is a claim; a battery that simply lasts less than it did when new probably is not. Meta does not publish a capacity percentage that separates the two.
A 12-month warranty can end before a battery shows its age. Our Meta glasses battery life guidehas Meta’s published runtimes for every model and the habits that make a charge last longer.
Accidental damage and Meta Warranty Plus
The standard warranty excludes drops, spills and scratches, which are the most common ways glasses get hurt. Meta’s answer is Meta Warranty Plus, an extended service contract that covers malfunctions, accidental damage, scratched or chipped lenses and frames, cosmetic damage and in-box accessories including the case. Meta’s store page describes it as up to two years of extended coverage. It is sold in the US and Japan only, and accidental or cosmetic claims carry a service fee. US prices, checked September 30, 2026:
| Glasses (non-prescription) | Warranty Plus price | Service fee per accidental / cosmetic claim |
|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 | $39.99 | $50 |
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 | $54.99 | $60 |
| Oakley Meta HSTN | $59.99 | $60 |
| Oakley Meta Vanguard | $69.99 | $75 |
| Meta Glasses | $59.99 | $65 |
| Meta Ray-Ban Display | $79.99 | $100 |
Three conditions matter. For most glasses, Warranty Plus must be bought at the same time as the glasses; Meta Glasses can add it within 60 days of activation and Meta Ray-Ban Display after activation. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 was not on the eligible list when we checked. And in year one, Ray-Ban or Oakley still handles malfunction claims while Meta handles accidental damage; from year two, Meta handles everything.
Meta glasses repair outside the warranty
After 12 months, or for damage the warranty excludes, Meta’s Limited Warranty points to a separate Out of Warranty Program for its own products; Meta does not publish repair prices on the pages we read. Ray-Ban and Oakley route repairs through their aftersales portals. Meta’s terms exclude damage from repairs not done by Meta or per its documentation, so a third-party repair shop can end your cover, and a used pair may carry no warranty at all. If you are weighing a second-hand or refurbished pair to save money, our refurbished Meta glasses guidesets out what Meta’s refurbished store actually offers.
How OXIVUE’s 2-year warranty compares
We sell camera-and-audio glasses from $149, so this is the comparison we are asked about. Our warranty page sets the terms, and here they are without the gloss, including the limits.
| Ray-Ban Meta (standard) | OXIVUE frames | |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 12 months; one or two years by country | 2 years from the date the frame shipped |
| Who you contact | Ray-Ban aftersales portal | orders@oxivue.com; reply within one business day |
| Remedy | Repair or replacement | Repair or replacement, typically within 10 business days of receiving the frame |
| Battery | “Battery issues” typically covered; no threshold published | Covered if capacity falls below 80% of rated within two years |
| Accidental damage | Not covered; Warranty Plus from $39.99 (US, Japan) | Not covered; paid repair, usually quoted at $30–$90 |
| Postage | Per maker’s instructions | Both ways in the first 30 days after delivery; after that you pay to send it in, we pay to send it back |
| Second owners | Proof of purchase required | Not transferable; paid repair available |
What our warranty covers: frame defects such as hinge failure or solder breaks, electronic defects in the camera, microphones, speakers, Bluetooth chip, touchpad and charging pin, the battery threshold above, and lens coatings including photochromic behaviour. What it does not: accidental damage, cosmetic wear, water damage beyond splash resistance (the frames are rain and sweat resistant, not swim-proof), modifications including third-party lens swaps and opening the electronics housing, and loss or theft.
The other half of the honest comparison is refunds. OXIVUE does not offer refunds. The one exception is an order that arrives damaged in transit, reported within 7 days of the delivery scan with photos, which we replace or refund. A fault that appears after delivery is handled under the warranty by repair or replacement, and change of mind, fit and features not matching expectations are not grounds for a refund, as our return policy states, so read the full spec comparison before you order; for a feature-by-feature view, see our Ray-Ban Meta alternatives guide. No OXIVUE frame has a display or takes prescription lenses, and the free HeyCyan app needs a sign-up, but no Meta or social-media account and no subscription.
Bottom line
The Meta glasses warranty is a 12-month defect warranty, and for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta it is honoured by Ray-Ban or Oakley, not Meta. It excludes drops, water and scratches, treats normal battery ageing as wear, and only Warranty Plus, sold in the US and Japan from $39.99 plus a fee per accidental claim, adds accidental cover. If two years of defect cover matters more to you than Meta AI or a 12 MP camera, the OXIVUE M08 at $149 (currently $50 off one pair at checkout, applied automatically) carries a 2-year repair-or-replace warranty with an 80% battery threshold. For sport, the M14 at $199 has the same warranty in an IPX4 wrap shield, and the M02C at $159 and M08C at $169 do too.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the warranty on Meta glasses?
Twelve months as standard. Meta's product pages for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Gen 3 and Oakley Meta Vanguard say EssilorLuxottica warrants the glasses against manufacturing defects for 12 months from the date of purchase, and Meta's own Meta Glasses carry a 12-month Meta warranty. Meta's Gen 2 FAQ adds that the Ray-Ban warranty is valid for one or two years depending on the country of purchase (all checked September 30, 2026).
Will Meta replace my glasses?
It depends on who made them. For Meta-made products such as Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta's Limited Warranty says Meta will, at its choice, repair or replace a covered product, and replacements may be new, refurbished or remanufactured. Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta are made by EssilorLuxottica, so Ray-Ban or Oakley decides the remedy through its own aftersales portal, even if you bought the pair on meta.com.
How do I file a warranty claim with Meta?
First troubleshoot: update the glasses and the Meta AI app, restart, and try a factory reset. For Ray-Ban Meta, file through the Ray-Ban aftersales portal; for Oakley Meta HSTN or Vanguard, the Oakley aftersales portal. You need the serial number and proof of purchase. For Meta-made products, contact Meta Store Support and request a Return Merchandise Authorization with your dated proof of purchase.
Can you get Meta glasses repaired?
Yes, within warranty for manufacturing defects, through Ray-Ban, Oakley or Meta depending on the model. Damage from drops, water or scratches is not covered by the standard warranty. Meta Warranty Plus, sold in the US and Japan, adds accidental and cosmetic damage cover for a service fee per claim, and Meta's Limited Warranty refers to a separate Out of Warranty Program for other cases.
What happens if my Meta glasses stop working?
Meta's help centre asks you to update the firmware and app, restart the glasses and try a factory reset first. If the fault remains and the pair is under warranty, file a claim with the maker: Ray-Ban or Oakley for EssilorLuxottica frames, Meta Store Support for Meta-made products. You can check the warranty status of a Meta-made device at meta.com/my/devices.
Does the Meta glasses warranty cover the battery?
Meta's help centre lists battery issues and charging problems among what the warranty typically covers. Meta's Limited Warranty for its own products treats batteries as consumable parts expected to diminish over time, so normal capacity loss is excluded unless the failure is due to a materials or workmanship defect. Meta does not publish a battery-capacity threshold for a claim.
Is the Meta warranty transferable if I buy used?
Meta's Limited Warranty is non-transferable to the extent permitted by law and excludes products that are used or resold, other than refurbished products, or bought from a non-authorised seller. Ray-Ban and Oakley claims ask for proof of purchase. If you are buying second-hand, assume the warranty may not follow the glasses.
What warranty do OXIVUE glasses have?
Every OXIVUE frame has a 2-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, counted from the date it shipped. Covered faults are repaired or replaced; battery retention below 80% of rated capacity within two years counts as a claim. Accidental damage, cosmetic wear, loss and third-party lens swaps are not covered. OXIVUE does not offer refunds, except for damage in transit.
