Christmas gifts for your husband: pick by what he does at the weekend

This guide is about a single category, camera smart glasses, and it starts with the question only a spouse can answer: does he wear prescription glasses? If he does, stop here. If he doesn't, the right pair depends on how he spends his Saturday.

1. The question only you can answer: does he wear prescription glasses?

If he needs prescription glasses all day, this is not the gift. No OXIVUE frame takes prescription lenses, on any model, and there is no date for when one will. A friend or a colleague might not know this about him. You do, which is why the question goes first.

There is a middle case. If he wears contact lenses at the weekend, or only needs glasses for reading, the frames sit over contacts the way ordinary sunglasses do. Our guide to prescription smart glasses goes through the workarounds honestly. If he would have to choose between seeing clearly and wearing your present, choose a different present.

Two more checks before you go further, both of which you can answer from across the sofa:

  • His phone. Translation, the assistant and getting photos off the glasses run through the free HeyCyan app on his phone, and music and calls need his phone nearby and connected over Bluetooth. If he resists installing apps, the glasses will mostly be sunglasses with speakers.
  • Whether he likes a camera on his face. A photo or clip starts only with a visible touch on the temple. That is useful on a fishing trip or for a golf swing, and pointless for a man who never takes photos. You know which he is.

2. Match the pair to what he does at the weekend

Three frames cover most weekends: the M08 at $99, the M08C at $119 and the M14 at $149, each price for one pair at checkout. They share an 8 MP camera, open-ear speakers, microphones and Bluetooth 5.4. What separates them is the shape, the lens and how much weather they are rated for, and those follow from how he spends his Saturday.

Prices checked 2026-10-19; checkout price may change. If you want a matching pair for yourself, two or more pairs in one order are 50% off all eyewear: two M08s come to $149. Every model is side by side on the comparison page.

3. M08 ($99 at checkout): the trail, the car and the lake

The M08 is the pair for a husband whose weekend is outdoors but not extreme. It looks like an ordinary pair of sunglasses, weighs about 42 g, and is rated for 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls. The 8 MP camera sits in the frame corner and starts with a touch on the temple.

  • Lens. Choose the Sunglasses lens if he lives in daylight, the Photochromic lens if he goes in and out of shops and cafés, and the Clear lens if he wants them for evenings. He should never drive at night in a tinted lens.
  • On a hike. A photo of the view without unzipping a pocket for his phone, and a podcast in his ears while he still hears the trail. See smart glasses for hiking.
  • On the water. A photo of the catch with both hands busy. The M08 has no published water rating, so it is for the bank and the boat, not the spray. Smart glasses for fishing has more.
  • In the car. Open-ear audio for directions and calls. The camera is for when he is parked. Our guide on driving with smart glasses covers the rules.

4. M08C ($119 at checkout): the golf course and the office

The M08C adds gold or silver metal trim to the M08 shape, which is the difference between sports sunglasses and something he wears to a client lunch. It uses a Sony IMX219 8 MP sensor, weighs about 42 g and has the same 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls.

On the course, he can take a photo of a hole or a short clip of a partner’s swing with the club still in his hands. He should ask before filming anyone else. Through the week, the open-ear speakers take calls without earbuds, and the clear or photochromic lens makes them office glasses rather than sunglasses. Choose the trim the way you would choose a watch strap: gold if his wardrobe runs warm, silver if it runs cool. More detail in smart glasses for golf.

Like the M08, the M08C has no published water rating, so it is not the pair for a husband who plays through every downpour.

5. M14 ($149 at checkout): the bike and the slope

The M14 is a one-piece wrap shield rated IPX4 for rain, splash and spray, built for the husband who rides on Saturday mornings or skis in January. It uses a Sony IMX219 8 MP sensor, translates 139 languages through the app, and comes in four colourways: Nero, Azzurro, Ghiaccio and Tramonto.

It is a different frame from the other two, and the differences matter for a gift:

  • Heavier. 52 g, against about 42 g for the M08 and M08C.
  • Battery the other way round. 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls, so it suits a rider who takes calls more than one who streams music for a whole day.
  • Fixed lens. The shield cannot be swapped for clear or photochromic. It is a daytime pair.

For the riding side see smart glasses for cycling; for the mountain, smart glasses for skiing.

6. What they won’t do, and why it matters for a gift

There is no display, no prescription option and no refund if he simply doesn’t like them. Those three facts decide more gift outcomes than any spec, so here they are without softening:

  • No display. Nothing appears in his view. He hears answers and music and captures photos and video; he does not see notifications or maps.
  • No prescription lenses, on any model.
  • Phone required. Translation, calls, music and the assistant need his phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only he hears the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on his phone.
  • Open-ear sound. Some sound leaks at high volume, and they won’t block out a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • No change-of-mind refunds. No refunds except transit damage (replaced or refunded); faults are repaired or replaced under the 2-year warranty; change of mind and unmet expectations are not refundable. The full terms are on the return policy page.

On the camera: captures start only with a visible touch on the temple, so nothing records unless he starts it. Recording people, especially audio, can require their consent depending on where he is, so the habit to give him with the gift is to ask first.

7. A Christmas gift for your husband: what to know before you order

US delivery is usually 5–9 business days (international 9–14 after shipment); we can’t guarantee arrival before December 25, so order early. Shipping is free from $99, so every single pair on this page ships free, and business days skip weekends and public holidays.

  • One for him, one for you. Two or more pairs of eyewear in one order are 50% off all eyewear at checkout; two M08 frames come to $149 in total, and an M08C for his golf and an M08 for your drives can be mixed in the same order.
  • A gift receipt is not a refund route. As section 6 says, a pair that is not his style cannot be sent back for a refund, so settle the prescription question in section 1 before you wrap anything.
  • Sending it abroad. We ship to the contiguous US, Canada, the UK, all 27 EU states, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Colombia and Mexico. Outside the US, prices exclude import VAT and duties, which the recipient pays on delivery; details are on the shipping policy page.

8. If not glasses: other gifts by his weekend

If glasses are the wrong gift, the same weekend test still works: give him more of the thing he already does on a Saturday, or a better version of it. These are categories, not products, so you can choose the budget and the shop yourself.

  • Golf. A lesson with a club professional, or a round at a course he has talked about but never played.
  • The trail.A guided hike somewhere new, or a national-park pass that turns next year’s weekends into plans.
  • The bike. A professional bike fit or a full service at a local shop.
  • The water.A day with a fishing guide on water he hasn’t fished.
  • Mostly indoors. An experience you book for the two of you, or a date night you plan from start to finish so he doesn’t have to.
  • For a personal touch. An engraved item he will keep on his desk, or a handwritten letter tucked in with whatever else you give.

Frequently asked questions

What do men want for Christmas presents?

Usually something he will use every week rather than something he has to find a place for. The simplest test is his weekend: whatever he already does on a Saturday morning is the thing a gift should make better. If that is a round of golf, a trail, a ride or a few hours on the water, a pair of camera smart glasses he wears anyway is a useful fit. If he wears prescription glasses all day, choose something else.

What are the top 10 useful gifts for men?

Useful gifts usually fall into a few groups: an experience he would not book himself, an upgrade to gear he already uses, a service for something he owns (a bike fit, a lesson), something personal such as an engraved item, and an everyday accessory that replaces something he carries. Camera smart glasses replace his sunglasses and earbuds for a walk or a drive and let him take a photo without reaching for his phone. They are only useful if he does not need prescription lenses.

What is the 5 gift rule for Christmas?

A common version is something he wants, something he needs, something to wear, something to read and something to do. Smart glasses sit across two of those boxes: they are something to wear, and, if he golfs, rides or fishes, they come along on something he does. That leaves the other three for smaller gifts, which keeps one present from carrying the whole of Christmas.

What are some personalized gifts I can give my husband?

With smart glasses, the personal part is the choice, not an engraving. You choose for him: the M08C with gold or silver trim if he dresses for the office or the course, the M14 in one of four colourways (Nero, Azzurro, Ghiaccio, Tramonto) if he rides or skis, or the M08 with a sun, photochromic or clear lens for everyday wear. Getting that choice right is the personalisation.

What if my husband wears prescription glasses?

Then these are not the gift. No OXIVUE frame takes prescription lenses, on any model. If he wears contact lenses at the weekend, the frames sit over them the way ordinary sunglasses do, so that can work. If he needs his glasses all day and never wears contacts, he would be choosing between seeing clearly and wearing your present, and that is a bad trade at Christmas.

Can he return them if he doesn't like them?

No. OXIVUE does not offer refunds for change of mind, a style he does not like or features that miss his expectations. The only refund exception is an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. A fault after delivery is covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement. That is why this guide asks you to check his prescription, his phone and his weekend before you buy.

Will it arrive before Christmas?

US delivery is usually 5–9 business days (international 9–14 after shipment); we can't guarantee arrival before December 25, so order early. Shipping is free from $99, so every single pair qualifies, and business days skip weekends and public holidays. Outside the US, the recipient pays any import VAT or duties on delivery.

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
  • M08C: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
  • M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
  • M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
