Why camera glasses are a riskier gift than most gadgets

A Bluetooth speaker works for anyone who owns a phone. A pair of AI glasses has to sit on a particular face, carry a lens that suits how that person spends the day, pair with the phone in their pocket, and survive the moment they open the box and decide whether they like how they look. Each of those is a place where a well-meant gift goes into a drawer.

The fifth risk is ours to state plainly. OXIVUE does not offer refunds. The one exception is an order that arrives damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are handled under the 2-year warranty by repair or replacement, not refund. Change of mind, fit, and features not matching your expectations are not refundable. Statutory rights where you live still apply. That rule is the reason this page exists: a gift you cannot send back deserves more thought than one you can.

One more, for recipients outside the United States. Prices are in US dollars and exclude import taxes and duties; the recipient’s customs authority charges those before delivery and they are payable by the recipient. A gift that arrives with a bill attached is a worse gift. Which variant ships fastest

This is the part most gift guides cannot tell you, because it depends on the exact lens and not just the model. Some variants ship from our Chicago warehouse and others ship direct. For a US address, a US-stock variant arrives in 5–9 business days door-to-door. Everything else ships direct: orders are handed to the carrier within 1–2 business days of payment, then transit takes 9–14 business days after shipment.

International orders run 9–14 business days after shipment for every frame, and some destinations take longer because of local customs handling. The product page shows the window for the exact lens and finish you select, so trust it over this table if the two ever disagree.

Two consequences for a gift. First, the photochromic lens, which darkens outdoors and clears indoors, is the most tempting choice when you do not know how someone will wear the glasses, and it is also the slow lane. Order-by dates for Christmas 2026

Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, so the useful target is Thursday, December 24. The dates below count back Monday to Friday and ignore public holidays, which only push them earlier. The first column is arithmetic. The second leaves a week of margin, which is what we would do with our own gifts.

A gift for dad: match the frame to what he does

“Gift for dad” is the most common way this question gets asked, and it is the easiest to answer, because most dads have one or two things they do every weekend. Pick the frame that suits those.

• He drives, hikes or fishes. Under $200, and the two-pair arithmetic

Five questions to ask without spoiling the surprise

1. “What size are your sunglasses?” Or read the numbers inside the arm of a pair left on the kitchen counter, and check them against the fit guide.
2. Do they wear prescription glasses all day? If yes and they do not use contact lenses, choose a different gift this year.

4. Indoors, outdoors, or both? Outdoors means sunglasses and the fast lane. Both means photochromic and the slow lane. Indoors means clear.

After the gift is opened, two practical things. Forward the order number to the recipient, because warranty claims on the frame start with it; the warranty page explains the process. And if the lens is wrong, email within 30 days of delivery, before the frame is worn, to arrange an exchange under the return policy.

Smart glasses are a good gift when the fit, lens, phone and delivery date are settled before you order, and a risky one when they are guessed, because OXIVUE does not refund change of mind or fit.
