What needs the phone connected, every time
- Setup and pairing. The frame is configured through the companion app — on OXIVUE frames the free HeyCyan app — and paired over Bluetooth 5.4.
- Music, podcasts, calls. The glasses are a headset, not a player. There is no onboard music and no standalone streaming; the audio is whatever the paired device sends.
- The voice assistant.The microphones hear the wake-word; the app and a cloud model do the understanding; the speakers play the answer. The M02C’s “Hey Cyan” visual assistant works the same way with an image.

What works with the phone in a pocket
Everything above, plus capture. The shutter is a touch on the temple; you do not open an app to take a photo. On a ride, a hike or a shift, the phone stays zipped away and the glasses keep working as a headset and a camera. Bluetooth range is a room or so, which is what a pocket is.
What works with the phone at home
Only capture, and only on the frames that store it themselves:
- M14 — $199. 4 GB of onboard memory; photos and 1080p clips land in the frame. Transfer later over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is the frame to buy if leaving the phone behind is the point.

Audio does not work with the phone at home on any frame, because there is nothing to play. Translation and the assistant do not either.

On OXIVUE frames, no. The HeyCyan companion app is free, there is no platform account to create and nothing recurring. Can I take photos and video without my phone?
On the M14, yes: one touch on the temple captures to the frame's own memory — 4 GB on the M14 — and you transfer later over Bluetooth or, on the M14, Wi-Fi. The M08, M02C and M08C do not publish an onboard-memory figure, so plan on having the phone paired for capture on those.
Can I listen to music without my phone?
No. The glasses are a Bluetooth 5.4 headset, not a player; there is no onboard music library and no standalone streaming on any frame we make. The audio comes from whatever the glasses are paired to — a phone, or a tablet or laptop if you pair them to that instead.
Does translation work offline?
No. Translation runs through the app and a cloud model, so it needs the phone with you and a data or Wi-Fi connection. Does the voice assistant need the phone?
Yes. The wake-word is picked up by the frame's microphones, but the understanding happens in the app and in cloud models, and the answer plays back through the speakers. The M02C's 'Hey Cyan' visual assistant, which describes what the camera sees, works the same way.
Can I pair them to something other than a phone?
For audio, yes — anything with Bluetooth 5.4 that can act as a source, such as a laptop for calls. For setup, capture transfer, translation and the assistant you need the companion app, which runs on a phone.
