Gifts for brother: how to choose one he’ll use
Gift ideas grouped by the kind of brother he is, then how to choose between them: his routine, an experience or an object, something he would not buy himself, and a budget. Camera glasses are one option for a brother who drives, rides or golfs. OXIVUE publishes this page and sells the frames it names.

1. Gift ideas by the kind of brother
Gift ideas for a brother fall into four groups: experiences, hobby upkeep, everyday upgrades and keepsakes. None needs a particular brand; pick the group that matches him, then the idea that matches his week.
- The brother who would rather have the time. Tickets to a concert or a game he follows, a class in something he has mentioned wanting to try (cooking, climbing, a driving day), or a planned day out with you, paid for in advance.
- The brother with a hobby. Upkeep for gear he already owns: a bike or ski tune-up, good socks or gloves for the sport, or a decent version of the tool he keeps borrowing from someone else.
- The brother who has the basics. An upgrade of something he uses every day: a better wallet, an insulated bottle or travel mug, a good kitchen knife, or a sturdy bag for work or the gym.
- The brother you live far from. A keepsake: a framed photo of the two of you, a printed album from a trip you took together, or a letter tucked in with whatever else you send.
- The brother who drives, rides or golfs. Camera sunglasses with open-ear speakers, covered in section 6.
2. Start from his routine and hobbies
The first question is what he does on an ordinary week, not what is popular this year. A gift that fits something he already does has a ready place in his week; a gift that asks him to start a new habit needs him to find one. Think about what keeps his hands busy: a steering wheel, handlebars, a kitchen, a guitar, a controller, a golf club.
3. An experience or an object
Decide this before anything else, because it splits the choice in two. An experience, such as tickets, a class, a trip or a day out together, suits a brother who has the things he needs and would rather have the time. An object suits a brother with a hobby that has gear, or one who will use it every day.
4. Something he would not buy himself
A useful rule: aim for an upgrade of something he already uses, or a thing he has looked at but decided was not worth his own money. Avoid replacing something he chose carefully himself; he picked it for a reason.
5. Set the budget first
Set a number before you browse, and agree it with anyone else you are buying for, such as a brother-in-law, so the gifts feel even. It keeps the choice short and stops the price from deciding for you.
6. If he drives, rides or golfs: camera glasses
Camera glasses are one option for a brother whose hands are busy: $99 to $149 at checkout for a single OXIVUE pair. They are sunglasses with an 8 MP camera started by a touch on the temple, plus open-ear speakers for calls and music. The table matches the three frames to three kinds of brother.
| If your brother… | Pick | At checkout | Why it fits | The limit to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drives or commutes every day | M08 | $99 | Ordinary-looking sunglasses with calls and music in open-ear speakers | No published water rating |
| Skis, snowboards or cycles | M14 | $149 | Wrap shield, IPX4 for rain and splash, 7 h of calls | Fixed shield; lens cannot be swapped; 52 g |
| Plays golf or dresses for the office | M08C | $119 | Gold or silver metal trim; reads as a dressier frame | No published water rating |
| Needs prescription lenses | None of these | — | No OXIVUE frame takes a prescription | See section 7 |
Prices checked 2026-10-19; checkout price may change. Listed prices are $149 (M08), $169 (M08C) and $199 (M14); a single pair is $50 less at checkout. Shipping is free from $99, so every single pair here qualifies. If none of the three rows describes him, our cool tech gifts for men guide looks at the wider category.
If he fits two rows, choose by where he spends the most hours. If you cannot tell, the M08 is the safer gift: it is the lowest price of the three, it looks like ordinary sunglasses, and unlike the M14’s fixed shield it comes with a choice of sun, photochromic or clear lens.
The commuter or driver: M08 ($99 at checkout)
The M08 is $99 at checkout and is the default pick for a brother who spends his day in a car or on the way to work. On the full-tint Sunglasses lens it looks like an ordinary pair of dark glasses. Inside the frame are an 8 MP camera in the corner, open-ear speakers and microphones. It weighs about 42 g and is rated 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls, which covers a commute both ways with room to spare.
- Calls without earbuds. The speakers sit near the ear rather than in it, so he still hears the road and the people around him.
- Pick the lens for when he drives. The sun lens is for daytime; if he drives early mornings or evenings, choose the Clear lens, since nobody should drive in a tinted lens after dark.
Use the camera when parked, not while driving; hands-free rules vary by state, and our guide to driving with smart glasses goes through them.
The skier or cyclist: M14 ($149 at checkout)
The M14 is $149 at checkout, rated IPX4 for splash, spray and rain, and built as a single wrap-around shield for a brother who rides or skis. It weighs 52 g, uses a Sony IMX219 8 MP sensor, and its battery rating is reversed, at 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls.
- Four colourways, one shield. Nero, Azzurro, Ghiaccio and Tramonto. The shield is fixed, so he cannot swap it for a clear or photochromic lens later. Choose the colour he will want to wear most often.
- Sunglasses, not goggles. The M14 is a wrap sunglass. No impact rating is published for it, so it is not a replacement for ski goggles or safety eyewear.
- Travel. Through the HeyCyan app it translates 139 languages. The translated audio is heard only by him; the other person reads the reply on his phone.
For more on the slopes, read smart glasses for skiing; for the rider, gifts for cyclists.
The golfer: M08C ($119 at checkout)
The M08C is $119 at checkout and is the pick for a brother who plays golf or wants something that looks right with a jacket. It is the M08 shape with a gold or silver metal trim, an 8 MP camera (Sony IMX219), the same 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls, and the same sun, photochromic or clear lens choice.
- On the course. A touch on the temple captures a photo or clip of the hole or the group, and he does not need to dig out his phone between shots.
- Off the course. The clear lens turns it into an everyday frame for the office, with calls in the open-ear speakers.
If golf is his main thing, our gifts for golfers who have everything guide goes further.
7. When camera glasses are the wrong gift
Camera glasses are the wrong gift in four cases.
- He needs prescription lenses. None of our frames takes a prescription. If he wears glasses all day, this gift will not replace them.
- He wants a screen. There is no display in the lens and no captions. Photos, clips and translations are handled in the HeyCyan phone app, so he needs his phone with him for those.
- He wants a camera that runs all day. Nothing records unless he starts it with a touch on the temple. That is by design.
- He already owns smart glasses. A second pair duplicates what he already has.
One more point for any camera gift: recording people, especially audio, can require their consent depending on where he lives. Our recording laws by state guide covers the US. This is general information, not legal advice.
8. Christmas gifts for brother: timing, the brother-in-law and the terms
If you are shopping for Christmas gifts for brother and brother-in-law at once, timing and terms matter more than the model. US delivery is usually 5–9 business days (international 9–14 after shipment); we can’t guarantee arrival before December 25, so order early. Shipping to yourself rather than to him keeps the surprise.
We ship to the contiguous US, Canada, the UK, all 27 EU states, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Colombia and Mexico. Alaska, Hawaii and US territories are not covered. Outside the US, prices do not include import VAT or duties, which the recipient pays on delivery, so tell him to expect that if you send it abroad. Details are on the shipping policy.
- One for him, one for the brother-in-law (or you). Put both pairs in one order: two or more pairs are 50% off all eyewear. Two M08 come to $149; an M08 and an M14 together come to $174.
- A gift receipt is not a refund route. A pair that is not his style cannot be sent back for a refund, so use the table above to pick carefully.
For more gifts at the same price point, see gifts for men under $100.
Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. No refunds except transit damage (replaced or refunded); faults are repaired or replaced under the 2-year warranty; change of mind and unmet expectations are not refundable. None of our frames take prescription lenses. Compare every model on the comparison page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good gift for a brother who has everything?
Something he uses every day or an experience you share. If he drives, rides or golfs, camera glasses are one option: the OXIVUE M08 is $99 at checkout, with an 8 MP camera, open-ear speakers and a choice of sun, photochromic or clear lens. If he already owns a pair of smart glasses, pick something else; a second pair duplicates what he has.
What gift should I buy for a brother-in-law?
Pick by what he does, not by how well you know him: a hobby he already has is the safest guide. If he drives to work, the M08 at $99 at checkout is one option; if he cycles or skis, the M14 at $149; if he plays golf, the M08C at $119. Buying for your brother and your brother-in-law in one order makes both pairs 50% off, so two M08 cost $149.
What do Gen Z guys want as gifts?
No single answer; ask what he already uses daily and build on it. If that is his phone, camera glasses are one option: photos and clips start with a touch on the temple and go to the free HeyCyan phone app, and the open-ear speakers play music and calls. There is no display in the lens, and they do not take prescription lenses, so check his eyesight first.
How do I surprise my brother with a gift?
Yes, it can be done without much planning: choose something he would not buy himself but will use soon, and order early. US delivery is usually 5–9 business days (international 9–14 after shipment); we can't guarantee arrival before December 25. Have it shipped to you rather than to him, so the box does not give the surprise away.
Are camera glasses a good Christmas gift for a brother?
Yes, if he does not need prescription lenses and is happy to pair them with his phone. They suit a brother who drives, cycles, skis or plays golf, because each of those keeps his hands busy. They are a poor choice for someone who wants a display, captions or a camera that runs all day; OXIVUE frames have none of those.
Can he return them if they are not his style?
No. OXIVUE does not offer refunds for a change of mind or because something was not what he expected. The exception is an order that arrives damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded, and a fault after delivery is covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement. Use the table above to pick the style carefully before you order.
What these frames won’t do
- No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
- No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
- Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
- Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
- M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
- M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
- M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.
- M08C: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
