Gifts for disc golfers, sorted by the player you’re buying for

The pages that rank for gifts for disc golfers are mostly disc shops listing discs, bags, carts, towels and retrievers, and those are good gifts. This guide sorts them by the kind of player you are shopping for, then covers one category the shops skip: sunglasses with a camera and open-ear speakers, for POV clips of a drive and music between holes. OXIVUE makes those glasses and publishes this page.

1. Gift ideas by type of disc golfer

The best gift for a disc golfer depends on how long they have played. Disc golf is cheap to start: the PDGA, the sport’s governing body, says it is often free to play in public parks and that a professional-quality disc costs roughly $15 (checked October 19, 2026). So the person you are buying for may already have the basics, and the useful gift is the thing they have not bought for themselves.

The playerWhat usually helpsWhy
Just startedA putter or a small starter set, a light bagCovers the basic shots without guessing at a full bag
Plays every weekendTowel, chalk bag, insulated water bottleWet discs and sweaty hands come with regular rounds
Plays courses with waterA disc retrieverGets a disc back from a pond without wading in
Plays tournaments or long daysA cart or a bigger bag, a seatCarries more discs and water over a long day
Customises everythingA disc dye kit, a disc from a favourite brandA personal disc is hard to buy for someone else, but dye lets them make one
Films rounds or plays to musicCamera sunglasses with open-ear speakersSun lens, music and eye-level clips of a drive without a phone in hand

If you only know that someone loves the game and not which discs they throw, skip the discs or ask a friend from their group. Disc choice comes down to plastic, weight and flight numbers, which are personal; accessories and gift cards avoid guessing.

2. The accessories disc golfers actually use

The disc golf shops and blogs that rank for this search (checked October 19, 2026) keep returning to the same accessories: a bag or cart, a towel, a chalk bag, a retriever and a water bottle. None of them depends on knowing the player’s throwing style, which is what makes them safe gifts.

  • A bag or a cart. The upgrade most players put off. A cart is for someone who plays long rounds or tournaments; a backpack bag suits most regulars.
  • A towel. Morning dew and wet tee pads make a slippery disc. A towel clipped to the bag is a small gift that gets used every round.
  • A chalk bag or grip aid. For dry hands on a hot day.
  • A retriever. For courses with ponds or creeks. A telescoping pole that pulls a disc out of the water saves both the disc and a wet afternoon.
  • A water bottle. A casual round takes one to two hours according to the PDGA, longer on a busy course or with a group of four.
  • A dye kit. A fun one for players who like to personalise their discs.

We do not sell any of these, so we do not recommend specific brands or quote their prices. Buy them from a disc golf shop or the brand the player already uses.

3. Where camera sunglasses fit

Camera sunglasses do three jobs a disc golfer already cares about: a sun lens on open fairways, open-ear audio for music between holes, and an eye-level camera for clips of a drive or an ace run. They do not do a fourth job people sometimes assume: they are not impact-rated and do not protect against a stray disc.

The table compares the two OXIVUE frames we would pick for disc golf with the M08, our most basic frame. All three have open-ear speakers, microphones, an 8 MP camera started with a touch on the temple, and the free HeyCyan phone app for files, translation and the assistant. None has a display.

Prices checked 2026-10-19; checkout price may change. Listed prices are $159 for the M02C, $199 for the M14 and $149 for the M08. Two or more pairs in one order are 50% off all eyewear, so an M02C and an M14 together come to $179. Free shipping starts at $99.

For a disc golfer, the M02C is the safer default and the M14 is the pick for someone who likes a sport wrap. We left the M08 as a reference because it has no published water rating, and disc golf means wet grass. Every model is on the comparison page.

4. M02C ($109 at checkout): sun lens, rain and long rounds

The M02C is rated IP65 and runs 7 hours of listening, which covers a round or two with music between holes. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets, so rain, dew and a damp towel are fine; a pond is not. It weighs about 41 g and charges with a magnetic connector.

  • Lens. Choose the Sunglasses lens for open courses, or photochromic, which darkens in UV light, or clear. The lens is picked at order time.
  • Camera. A Sony IMX219 8 MP sensor with dual stabilisation, which helps with the movement of a run-up. You still start each clip with a touch.
  • “Hey Cyan” visual AI. The M02C can describe what you are looking at through the app. Not a disc golf feature, but useful off the course.

5. M14 ($149 at checkout): the wrap shield

The M14 is a 52 g one-piece wrap shield rated IPX4 for splash and rain. It comes in four colourways: Nero (black frame, smoke shield), Azzurro (black frame, blue mirror), Ghiaccio (white frame, ice-blue mirror) and Tramonto (white frame, sunset-red mirror). It is the frame we design for cycling and skiing, and it suits a disc golfer who already wears sport wraps.

  • Battery is the other way round. The M14 is rated 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls, against 7 h listening on the M02C. Four hours covers a casual round of one to two hours, but not a full tournament day of music.
  • The shield is fixed. It cannot be swapped for a clear or photochromic lens, so it is a daytime frame.
  • Translation. The M14 translates 139 languages through the app, against 40+ on the M02C. Only the wearer hears the translated audio.

6. Using camera sunglasses on the course

Three habits make the gift work on a real round: music off when someone throws, a touch on the temple before your own drive, and asking before you film other players.

  • Music between holes, not during throws. The PDGA’s courtesy rule says players shouldn’t distract each other by making noise or moving around when someone is throwing (Simplified Rules, checked October 19, 2026). Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume, so pause the music or keep it low when someone steps up.
  • POV clips of a drive. Touch the temple, set up and throw. The clip is from your eye level, so it shows your line and the flight rather than your form; a phone on a tripod is still the tool for form checks.
  • Other players and the public. Parks are shared spaces. Ask your card before filming them, and remember audio recording rules vary by state; our recording laws by state guide has the detail. This is general information, not legal advice.
  • Tournaments.Check the event’s own rules on electronic devices and filming before wearing them in sanctioned play.
  • Stray discs. No OXIVUE frame has a published impact rating. Keep the usual awareness of other groups and fairways that cross.

For ball golf, the same idea is covered in smart glasses for golf and golf gadgets; for other sports, see sports sunglasses with a camera.

7. Who these glasses are not for

Camera sunglasses are the wrong gift for a disc golfer who wears prescription glasses all day, because no OXIVUE model takes prescription lenses. They are also wrong for anyone who expects a screen, since there is no display; or for a player who wants music that blocks out a windy course, since open-ear speakers don’t seal like earbuds.

Music, calls, translation and file transfer need the HeyCyan app on a phone nearby. If the person you are buying for already has a pair of sport sunglasses they love, a towel, a retriever or a new bag may be the better gift. Fit is a fair worry for a gift nobody can try on first, so read the product page carefully before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What are good gifts for disc golfers?

Good gifts match how the person plays. A new player gets the most from a putter or a small starter set and a light bag. A regular appreciates a towel, a chalk bag, a retriever for water holes or an insulated bottle. A player who films rounds or plays to music may like camera sunglasses: the OXIVUE M02C is $109 at checkout with a sun lens, open-ear speakers and an 8 MP camera you start with a touch.

Is disc golf an expensive hobby?

No, it is one of the cheaper sports to start. The PDGA says disc golf is often free to play in public parks and that a professional-quality disc costs roughly $15, with one disc enough for basic play (checked October 19, 2026). Costs grow with a bigger bag, a cart, more discs and pay-to-play courses, which is why accessories make easy gifts.

What is disc golf etiquette?

The basics come straight from the PDGA's courtesy rule: do not distract other players by making noise or moving around while someone is throwing, do not throw out of turn, do not litter, and help look for lost discs. For anyone playing with music, that means turning it off or right down when someone in the group steps up to throw, especially with open-ear speakers that others can hear.

What do you wear to play disc golf?

Most players wear comfortable athletic clothing, shoes with grip for wet grass and rough tee pads, a hat and sunglasses on open courses. Sunglasses are where a gift can do more than one job: a pair with a sun lens, open-ear audio and a camera covers glare, music and clips of a drive. Check that any glasses you buy stay put through a full throwing motion.

Can camera glasses film your disc golf drive?

Yes, from your own eye level. On the OXIVUE M02C and M14 you touch the temple to start a photo or clip before the throw, and the file goes to the HeyCyan phone app. The view is what you see, so the run-up and release look different from a tripod clip filmed side-on. Neither model has a display, and nothing records unless you start it.

Do these sunglasses protect your eyes from a stray disc?

No. OXIVUE frames have no published impact rating and are not safety eyewear, so do not treat them as protection from a disc, a branch or anything else that hits the lens. Wear them for sun, audio and capture. If you need rated protective eyewear, buy a product that is certified for impact.

Can they handle wet courses and rain?

Partly, and it depends on the model. The M02C is rated IP65: dust-tight and protected against water jets, which covers rain and wet grass but not immersion. The M14 is rated IPX4 for splash and rain. The M08 has no published water rating. None of them should go into a pond after a disc; that is what a retriever is for.

How fast do they ship before the holidays, and can they be returned?

US orders typically arrive in 5 to 9 business days and international orders in 9 to 14 business days, with free shipping from $99, so every single pair qualifies. OXIVUE does not offer refunds; the exception is an order that arrives damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. A fault after delivery is covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement.

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M02C: IP65 resists dust and water jets, not immersion. No swimming, no saltwater.
  • M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
  • M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
