Smart sunglasses for men, picked by what you do in them.

Search for men's smart sunglasses and you mostly get marketplace listings and forum threads. Nobody tells you which pair suits a commute, a trail, a round of golf or a ski run. This guide does that with our own four frames, explains fit through frame shape, and is plain about what none of them do.

1. Men’s smart sunglasses, picked by use

All four frames share three things: an 8 MP camera, Bluetooth 5.4 and open-ear audio. Beyond that the weight, battery split, water rating, lens type and number of translation languages differ by model, so it pays to start from the activity.

2. M08 sunglasses ($149): driving, hiking and fishing

The M08 is our entry frame and the one we would hand most men first. On the full-tint Sunglasses lens it is a plain two-lens pair of dark glasses that happens to carry an 8 MP camera at the frame corner, open-ear speakers and microphones. It weighs about 42 g in TR90 and is rated 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls.

  • Driving. A full-tint lens is the better choice in a car than photochromic, because windscreens block much of the ultraviolet light that makes a photochromic lens darken. Use the glasses for calls and directions through the open-ear speakers, keep your eyes on the road and leave the camera alone while moving. Take a sun lens off at dusk.
  • Hiking. The camera earns its place on a trail: a touch on the temple catches the view without stopping to dig out a phone. See smart glasses for hiking for battery planning on a long day.
  • Fishing. Hands-free capture of the catch is the strongest case for camera sunglasses on the water. The M08 has no published water rating, so on wet days look at the M02C instead, and read our fishing guide for the polarised question.

3. M02C sunglasses ($159): when the weather turns

The M02C is the same two-lens sun-lens idea with more inside. It is rated IP65, which means dust-tight and protected against water jets. It is still not a rating for immersion. It also has a Sony 219 sensor with dual stabilisation, a “Hey Cyan” wake word with visual AI that can tell you about what you are looking at, magnetic charging, and it is our lightest camera frame at about 41 g.

Pick it over the M08 if you hike in the rain, fish from a boat or simply want one pair that covers the most situations. The $10 difference buys the only IP65 rating in the line.

4. M08C ($169): golf and business

The M08C takes the M08 frame and adds Gold or Silver trim, with the same three lens choices. On a sun lens it is the pair that looks right at a club, on a terrace after a meeting or in an airport lounge. Its app features include meeting transcription, which is why we position it as the business frame. Weight and battery match the M08: about 42 g, 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls.

On the course, use it for music between shots and for capturing the round, and check your club’s rules on cameras. Our smart glasses for golf guide goes further. Like the M08, it has no published water rating.

5. M14 wrap shield ($199): skiing and cycling

The M14 is a different product, not a bigger M08. It is a one-piece wrap-around shield, 52 g, that stays in place at speed and covers more of your field of view at the sides. Its specifications barely overlap with the M08 family:

  • Shield: fixed polycarbonate, chosen with the colourway and not swappable: Nero (smoke), Azzurro (blue mirror), Ghiaccio (ice-blue mirror) or Tramonto (sunset-red mirror).
  • Water: IPX4, which covers splash, sweat and rain, not immersion.
  • Camera: 8 MP Sony IMX219, stabilised 1080p video at 30 fps, 4 GB onboard memory and Wi-Fi file transfer.
  • Audio and battery: 300 mAh rated 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls, with dual microphones and a bone-conduction mic for calls in the wind.
  • Translation: 139 languages through the HeyCyan app, against 40+ on the M08 family.

For cycling, the wrap keeps wind out of your eyes and the calls clear. For skiing, it is a bright-day sunglass, not a goggle, and cold shortens any battery’s runtime, so keep it warm between runs. More in smart glasses for cycling and smart glasses for skiing.

6. Fit: choose by frame shape

Men’s sunglasses are usually sold by look, and the look comes from the frame shape. The M08 family is measured the way opticians measure frames (52-18-145); the M14 is a one-piece shield, so its size is given as overall dimensions instead.

A simple way to judge it: if your usual sunglasses are everyday two-lens frames, the M08 family will feel familiar. If you normally wear sport wraps for riding or the slopes, the M14 is the closer match. To check size, compare the numbers printed inside the temple of a pair you already own with the M08 family’s 52-18-145 (sized for medium-to-large faces), or hold a ruler across your current pair against the M14’s 150 mm overall width. Our fit guide has the full measurements.

7. What none of them do

  • No polarised lens. Tint and mirror coatings reduce brightness but do not cut reflected glare off water or a wet road the way polarisation does.
  • No prescription lenses on any model.
  • No published UV figure. We do not publish a UV400 or percentage UV rating, so we do not quote one. If a stated UV figure matters to you, buy a pair that publishes it. Our AI sunglasses guide explains what to look for.
  • No display. Translation runs through the free HeyCyan app on your phone, and the translated audio is heard only by the wearer. The person you are talking to reads or hears it from your phone.

8. Camera sunglasses and Bluetooth sunglasses, in practice

Most men searching for camera sunglasses or Bluetooth sunglasses want one of two things: hands-free photos of what they are doing, or music and calls without earbuds. All four frames do both. Capture is a deliberate touch, so nothing records unless you start it, and the open-ear speakers keep you aware of traffic and people around you.

Recording does carry rules. Silent video in public is generally lawful in the US, but audio recording falls under state law, and private venues set their own policies. Read smart glasses recording laws by state before you film other people. For a wider look at the category, see camera sunglasses and our smart glasses for men sizing guide, or compare every model on the comparison page.

Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days; international orders take 9–14 business days. OXIVUE does not offer refunds except for an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best smart sunglasses for men?

It depends on what you do in them, because the frame shape matters more than the label. For driving, hiking and fishing, the OXIVUE M08 with the full-tint sun lens is the simplest pick at $149. The M02C at $159 is the same idea with an IP65 rating, Sony 219 sensor and visual AI. The M08C at $169 adds gold or silver trim for golf and business. For skiing and cycling, the M14 wrap shield at $199 is the one built for motion.

What are the best smart glasses for men?

There is no men's-only model on the market from us: OXIVUE frames are unisex and you choose by shape. The two-lens M08 family (M08 $149, M02C $159, M08C $169) reads as classic everyday eyewear and takes a sun, photochromic or clear lens. The M14 at $199 is a one-piece wrap shield that suits a sporty look and stays put at speed. If you want smart glasses for men by size rather than shape, our separate men's guide covers Meta's sizing.

Do smart sunglasses actually work?

The parts that are simple work well: an 8 MP camera you trigger with a touch, open-ear speakers for music and calls, and microphones for voice. On every OXIVUE frame those are standard. Translation runs through the free HeyCyan app on your phone and the translated audio is heard only by the wearer. What they do not do is replace a phone screen, take a prescription lens, or polarise light. Judge them as sunglasses that also capture and play audio.

Is it legal to wear smart sunglasses?

Wearing them is legal in the US. Recording is where rules apply. Silent video in a public place is generally lawful, but audio recording falls under state wiretap laws, and roughly a dozen states require everyone in a private conversation to consent. Private venues, golf clubs and gyms can set their own camera rules. Behind the wheel, use them for audio and calls only and leave the camera alone. Our recording-laws guide breaks this down by state.

Are these camera sunglasses for men?

Yes, every OXIVUE sunglasses option has an 8 MP camera in the frame, and you take a photo or start a clip with a deliberate touch on the temple. Nothing records continuously. The M14 also stores files on 4 GB of onboard memory and records stabilised 1080p at 30 fps. Use them for the moments when your hands are busy, such as the trail, the catch or the descent, and be considerate when other people are in the frame.

Can I use them as men's Bluetooth sunglasses for music and calls?

Yes. Every frame pairs over Bluetooth 5.4 and plays through open-ear speakers, so you still hear traffic and the people around you. Battery splits differ by model: the M08 and M08C are rated 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls, while the M14 is the reverse at 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls, which suits long rides with phone calls.

Are the lenses polarised?

No. OXIVUE does not list a polarised lens on any model. The M08 family offers a full-tint sun lens, a photochromic lens or a clear lens, and the M14 has a fixed shield in smoke or one of three mirror finishes. Tint and mirror coatings cut brightness, but they do not remove the reflected glare off water or a wet road the way polarisation does. If that is your priority, keep a polarised pair as well.

Can I get them with prescription lenses?

No. None of the OXIVUE frames support prescription lenses, and the M14's one-piece shield cannot be swapped at all. If you need vision correction to drive or play, choose a frame that is sold prescription-ready.

How fast do they ship, and what if something goes wrong?

US orders typically arrive in 5 to 9 business days and international orders in 9 to 14 business days, with free shipping from $99. OXIVUE does not offer refunds; the exception is an order that arrives damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. A fault after delivery is covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement.

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
  • M02C: IP65 resists dust and water jets, not immersion. No swimming, no saltwater.
  • M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
  • M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
