Bluetooth glasses with a camera: check that they do both jobs.
Search for glasses with a camera and Bluetooth and you get a mix of three different products: recorders with no speakers, audio frames with no camera, and frames that really do both. This guide shows how to tell them apart from the listing, what recording sound and playing sound each need, and which OXIVUE frame fits driving, hiking, fishing or the office.

1. Three different products under one search
The phrase “Bluetooth glasses with camera” is used for three kinds of product, and retail listings often mix them on the same page. Before you compare prices, work out which one you are looking at.
| Type | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Recorder glasses | Camera and a memory card or internal storage; video moves to a computer or app | Often no speakers, so no music or calls. “Bluetooth” may only mean pairing with an app. |
| Audio glasses | Bluetooth speakers and a microphone for music and calls | No camera at all, even when the title mentions one in the keywords |
| Camera + audio glasses | Camera, open-ear speakers, microphones and a phone app in one frame | Battery is shared between capture and audio, so neither runs all day nonstop |
Every OXIVUE frame on this page is the third type. If you only want music and calls with no camera, our Bluetooth sunglasses guide covers audio-only frames. If the camera is the main reason you are shopping, the camera glasses guide goes deeper on video.
2. The five-point checklist
A listing for camera glasses with Bluetooth should answer each of these. If it leaves one out, ask the seller or assume the answer is no.
- Bluetooth version, and what it is used for. A version number tells you the radio is real. Check that it carries audio and calls, not just app pairing. Every OXIVUE frame uses Bluetooth 5.4.
- Speakers, and what kind. Open-ear speakers sit in the temples and aim sound toward your ear, so you still hear traffic and people around you. OXIVUE uses open-ear directional speakers on the M08 family and an open-ear 13 mm driver on the M14. The trade-off of any open-ear design: some sound escapes at high volume.
- Microphones. These handle calls and voice commands. Wind is the usual problem outdoors. The M14 lists dual microphones with environmental noise cancellation plus a bone-conduction mic that picks up your voice through the frame.
- Camera. Look past the megapixel figure to video resolution and stabilisation. All four OXIVUE frames have an 8 MP camera. The M02C uses a Sony 219 sensor with dual stabilisation; the M14 uses a Sony IMX219 and records 1080p at 30 fps with electronic stabilisation to 4 GB of onboard memory.
- The app. The app is where photos and video land and where features such as translation live. On the M14, the HeyCyan app handles translation in 139 languages and moves files over Wi-Fi. The M08 family translates in 40+ languages through the app. When you use translation, the translated audio plays in your glasses, so only you hear it.
3. Does the video record sound? Keep two questions apart
Listings blur two different things, and they are worth separating:
- Playing audio means the speakers. It is what lets you hear music, a call or a translation. A pair of glasses can play audio perfectly well and still record silent video.
- Recording audio means the microphones capture sound into a file. That needs a microphone and a recording function that saves it, and it is also the part of a recording that state wiretap laws care about.
So the answer to “does the video record sound?” depends on the product. Many low-cost recorder glasses advertise video but say nothing about audio; many audio glasses advertise sound but have no camera. Ask for a sample clip, or check the listing for both a microphone and an audio recording feature.
On OXIVUE: every camera frame has microphones, which you use for calls and voice commands, and the M14 lists dual mics with noise reduction plus a bone-conduction mic. Our published spec sheet does not include a separate audio-track line for video clips, so we are not going to claim one here. The safe working rule is the legal one: treat any frame with microphones as able to capture sound, and behave accordingly.
4. Battery: compare listening and call hours
Camera glasses share one small battery between the camera, the speakers and the radio. The fair way to compare them is the listening and call figures, which every OXIVUE frame publishes:
- M08 and M08C: ~300 mAh · 7 h listening / 4 h calls.
- M02C: ~290 mAh, with magnetic charging.
- M14: 300 mAh · 4 h listening / 7 h calls · about 2 h to charge. The split is the opposite of the M08 family, so do not assume one figure covers every model.
Recording video uses the most power on any camera frame. If a listing quotes one large hour figure without saying what it measures, assume it is standby or audio, not video.
5. Which OXIVUE frame for what
M08 with the sunglasses lens, $149: driving, hiking, fishing
The M08 is the simplest answer to this search and the one we would start most people on. With the sunglasses lens it is an everyday pair of shades that also takes calls, plays your route or podcast through open-ear speakers, and captures the view with an 8 MP camera set flush in the frame corner. It weighs about 42 g in a TR90 frame. You can also choose a photochromic or clear lens.
It suits long drives (calls and directions without sealing your ears), trail days (the summit photo without getting the phone out) and calm days by the water. Note that the M08 has no published water rating. For wet weather, see the M02C below, and read our hiking and fishing guides.
M02C, $159: the one for rain and spray
The M02C is the only OXIVUE frame rated IP65: dust-tight and protected against water jets, though not immersion. It is our lightest camera frame at about 41 g, uses a Sony 219 sensor with dual stabilisation, and adds the “Hey Cyan” voice wake word with visual AI that can tell you what you are looking at. It comes with the same three lens choices. If your hiking or fishing days are often wet, this is the better pick.
M08C, $169: business and golf
The M08C has a gold or silver trim on a TR90 frame, in six combinations of trim and lens. It is built for calls and meetings, with dual-speaker directional output, and it looks right in an office or on a course. See our golf guide for how it works on the course.
And for skiing or cycling: M14, $199
If your sport is fast, the M14 is a different design: a 52 g wrap-around shield, IPX4 splash rating, stabilised 1080p video, 4 GB onboard and the dual-mic setup that keeps calls clear in the wind. It shares almost no specs with the M08 family, so check its own page. More in our skiing and cycling guides.

7. Use the camera openly
A lot of listings in this search sell covert recording. We do not. On every OXIVUE frame the camera is at the front where people can see it, and capture starts with a deliberate touch on the frame rather than recording in the background. That makes the polite version easy, but it does not make telling people optional.
- Say what the glasses are the first time someone asks.
- Ask before you record a conversation. Audio is the legally sensitive half.
- Take them off in restrooms, changing rooms, medical areas and other people’s homes.
- Follow venue rules; many businesses, gyms and events ban recording.
The details by state are in our recording laws guide.
Shipping and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days; international orders in 9–14 business days. OXIVUE does not offer refunds except for an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are covered by a 2-year warranty through repair or replacement. No OXIVUE model supports prescription lenses.
Frequently asked questions
What can Bluetooth glasses with a camera do?
Two separate jobs in one frame. Over Bluetooth they connect to your phone for music, podcasts, directions and calls through open-ear speakers and microphones. The camera takes photos and video from eye level with a touch on the frame. On OXIVUE frames the companion app adds live translation (40+ languages on the M08 family, 139 on the M14), and the M02C adds a voice assistant and visual AI.
Does the video from camera glasses record sound?
It depends on the product, which is why you should check before buying. Some cheap recorders capture picture only, and some audio frames have no camera at all. Every OXIVUE camera frame has microphones, which you use for calls and voice commands, and the M14 lists dual microphones with noise reduction plus a bone-conduction mic. Our spec sheet does not publish a separate audio-track line for video clips, so we do not make a claim here. For legal purposes, treat any frame with microphones as able to capture sound.
Are Bluetooth camera glasses legal?
Owning and wearing them is legal in the US. What the law limits is how you record. Silent video in a public place is generally lawful; recording audio of a private conversation falls under state wiretap laws, and about a dozen states require everyone in the conversation to agree. Venues can also ban recording on their premises. Our recording-laws guide explains the split state by state. This is general information, not legal advice.
Is it legal to wear smart glasses?
Yes, wearing them is legal in the US; the limits are on recording, covered above. Behind the wheel, wearing glasses with built-in audio is not banned as such, but rules on headphones, phone use and distraction vary by state, so check yours. Open-ear speakers leave your ears uncovered, which is the reason many drivers prefer them to earbuds. Never handle the camera or touch controls in a way that takes your attention off the road.
Can you record conversations with smart glasses?
Technically, any frame with a microphone and recording function can capture people talking. Legally, recording a private conversation without everyone's consent can be a crime in all-party-consent states, even in a public place. Use capture openly: say what the glasses are when asked, ask before recording a conversation, and take them off in restrooms, changing rooms and medical areas.
What Bluetooth version do OXIVUE camera glasses use?
Bluetooth 5.4 on every frame we sell: the M08 ($149), M02C ($159), M08C ($169) and M14 ($199). Bluetooth carries your audio and calls to and from the phone. On the M14, photos and video move to the phone over Wi-Fi through the HeyCyan app, which is faster than Bluetooth for large files.
How long does the battery last?
On the published figures, the M08 and M08C are rated 7 hours of listening or 4 hours of calls on a ~300 mAh battery. The M14 splits its 300 mAh the other way: 4 hours of listening or 7 hours of calls. The M02C uses a ~290 mAh battery. Recording video is the heaviest draw on any camera frame, so capture moments rather than long takes.
Are these spy glasses?
No, and we do not sell them as that. The camera on every OXIVUE frame sits at the front of the frame where people can see it, and capture starts with a deliberate touch rather than running in the background. If a listing sells covert recording, that is a different product and a legal risk for the wearer.
Can I get prescription lenses in them?
No. No OXIVUE model supports prescription lenses. The M08, M02C and M08C come with a sunglasses, photochromic or clear lens; the M14 has a fixed one-piece shield in four colourways.
How fast do they ship, and what is the warranty?
US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days and international orders in 9–14 business days, with free shipping from $99. OXIVUE does not offer refunds except for an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are covered by a 2-year warranty through repair or replacement.
What these frames won’t do
- No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
- No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
- Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
- Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
- M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
- M02C: IP65 resists dust and water jets, not immersion. No swimming, no saltwater.
- M08C: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
