Futuristic sunglasses: the wrap shield, the mirror and the dark tint
Futuristic sunglasses come down to a few visible choices: one continuous shield or a very clean two-lens frame, a mirrored or deeply tinted finish, and a shape that looks moulded rather than assembled. This guide covers the look first and how to choose between its parts. Then it shows two pairs from OXIVUE, a wrap shield and a dark sun lens, and what a camera and open-ear audio add.

1. What makes sunglasses look futuristic
Three visible features make sunglasses read as futuristic: a lens that reads as one continuous surface, a mirrored or very dark finish, and a frame with few visible joins. You can check each one on any listing: count the lenses, read the finish named in the description, and look at where the frame is joined.
A description of a look is not a promise about performance. A shield can be cut for fashion, for sport or for both, and the name on a product page does not say which. So judge a pair on what you can see and measure: the outline, the finish, the weight and the width.
If you want a broader view of frame shapes, trims and tints across smart glasses in general, start with our stylish smart glasses guide. This page stays on the single look the search is about.
It helps to separate two ideas. A shape is the outline of the frame or shield: wrap, flat-top, rectangular. A finish is what is done to the lens surface: a mirror coating, a colour, or a plain dark tint. A shape can be paired with many different finishes, which is why two pairs described with the same word can look nothing alike. Decide which of the two you care about first, and shop for that one.
2. Shapes and lens finishes
The table splits the look into the parts you can choose between. It describes categories, not specific products from other brands.
| Element | What it looks like | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Wrap shield | One continuous lens curving round the temples | Overall width and weight; whether the shield can be replaced |
| Flat-top or slim shield | Narrow single lens with a straight upper edge | Lens height against your eyebrow line |
| Mirror finish | Reflective coating on the outside of the lens; the colour varies | The listed colour, and whether it matches the frame |
| Dark tint | Plain dark lens | Whether the listing names the tint, not just “dark” |
| Clean frame | No logos, minimal hinges, matte surface | Hinge and temple construction in the product photos |
Two choices to settle first: how wide the frame is, and which lens finish you want. The next sections take one pair of each kind.
3. How to decide
Four questions frame the choice, and you can answer each one without trying anything on.
- How wide is the frame? Measure a pair you already wear, front to back and across, then compare against the listed overall size. A listing with no dimensions at all leaves that question unanswered, so ask the seller before ordering.
- Shape or finish first? If the outline is what draws you, a wrap shield narrows the field. If the colour is what draws you, filter by finish and accept a more ordinary outline.
- Fixed lens or swappable? A one-piece shield cannot be swapped for another lens. That is simple to live with, but it means the colour you buy is the colour you keep.
- What else do you want it to do? If the answer is only to look good, any well-described pair works. If you also want a camera and open-ear audio, the field shrinks to a short list of smart frames, and the features then matter as much as the finish.
Whichever pair you land on, read the seller’s own return, shipping and warranty pages before ordering. If a listing states no lens rating, treat it as not stated.
4. M14: the wrap shield ($149 at checkout)
The M14 has a one-piece polycarbonate shield lens on a TR90 frame with polycarbonate temples. The shield is fixed: it cannot be swapped for a clear or prescription lens. It weighs 52 gand measures 150 × 56 × 169 mm overall.
The finish is set by which of the four colourways you choose:
- Nero: black frame with a smoke shield.
- Azzurro: black frame with a blue mirror.
- Ghiaccio: white frame with an ice-blue mirror.
- Tramonto: white frame with a sunset-red mirror.
The two white-frame colourways put a light frame around a coloured mirror. The two black-frame colourways keep the frame black; Azzurro adds a blue mirror and Nero has a smoke shield. The M14 is also the frame we position for cycling and skiing; our guides to smart glasses for cycling and smart glasses for skiing go into that use.
5. M08: the dark sun lens ($99 at checkout)
Not everyone wants a shield. The M08 in its Sunglasses lens is the option without a shield. It is a conventional two-lens TR90 frame at about 42 g. The lens is listed as a Sunglasses lens (Full tint).
The M08 is also sold with photochromic and clear lenses. Photochromic lenses darken in UV light and turn close to clear indoors, which is a different look from a constant dark tint. For the futuristic look described here, the Sunglasses lens is the one that matches.
The two frames also differ in audio. The M14 lists 4 hours of listening and 7 hours of calls; the M08 lists 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls. If you mostly want music, the M08’s numbers fit that use. If you mostly take calls, the M14’s do.

7. The tech inside, as a bonus
Both pairs carry an 8 MP camera set in the frame, and a touch on the temple starts a capture. Capture starts with a touch on the temple. Open-ear speakers play music and calls without covering your ears, and microphones handle calls.
The M14 additionally lists 1080p video at 30 fps with electronic stabilisation. Translation runs through the companion app on your phone: the translated audio is heard only by you, the other person reads the reply on the phone, and translation pauses after each sentence. There is no display in either frame.

8. Wearing them well
- Check the size.The M14 measures 150 × 56 × 169 mm and weighs 52 g; compare those figures with a pair you already own.
- Ask before you capture people. The camera sits in plain view and starts with a touch on the temple, but that does not replace consent. Check the recording laws by state where audio is involved.
- Want it quieter? The M08 with the Sunglasses lens is the two-lens option. Our guides to smart sunglasses for men and smart glasses that look like normal glasses cover that route.
9. What OXIVUE does not do
We publish no polarisation or UV rating for these lenses, and no impact rating for either frame, so treat them as daily-wear sunglasses with extra features rather than certified safety eyewear. Neither frame has a display or takes prescription lenses.
The voice-activated visual assistant belongs to the M02Conly; the M14 and the M08 do not have it. The M14 shield is fixed, so you cannot change its finish later. If any of those limits rules a pair out for you, look at other makers, and this guide’s buying questions still apply to it.

Frequently asked questions
What makes sunglasses look futuristic?
Three visible features: one continuous lens or shield instead of two separate lenses, a mirrored or strongly coloured finish, and a clean frame with few visible joins. A wrap shape adds to the effect by curving around the face. The OXIVUE M14 has a fixed polycarbonate shield in four colourways on a 52 g frame. The M08 with the Sunglasses lens (Full tint) is a conventional two-lens frame.
Are Y2K and futuristic sunglasses the same thing?
Not necessarily. Y2K names a style era, while futuristic describes a shape and a finish, so a listing can use one word, both or neither. Judge the frame itself: its outline, its lens finish, its width and its weight. Those four things are what you can check in a listing before ordering, whatever label it carries.
Can futuristic sunglasses have a camera and speakers?
Yes. The OXIVUE M14 has an 8 MP Sony camera, open-ear speakers and microphones, and lists 1080p video at 30 fps with electronic stabilisation. The M08 has an 8 MP camera and open-ear audio in a two-lens frame. On both, capture starts with a touch on the temple, and neither frame has a display. Ask before photographing people.
Are OXIVUE sunglasses an Oakley alternative?
No, not a like-for-like one. OXIVUE is a separate brand with no link to Oakley. What the M14 offers is a one-piece shield, a 52 g frame, an 8 MP camera and open-ear audio, with no display. Compare the width, weight and lens finish on any Oakley pair you are considering against the figures on this page.
Can I buy OXIVUE futuristic sunglasses on Amazon?
No. We sell the M14 and M08 at oxivue.com checkout, and the prices on this page are those checkout prices for one pair. Shipping is free from $99, so either frame qualifies. Import VAT or duties outside the US are paid by the recipient on delivery. Check the seller and the return terms of any listing elsewhere before you order.
Do OXIVUE sunglasses come in silver?
Yes, on the M08C. The M08C is sold with gold or silver trim and a Sunglasses (full tint) lens. The M14 has no silver option: it comes in four colourways: Nero (black frame, smoke shield), Azzurro (black frame, blue mirror), Ghiaccio (white frame, ice-blue mirror) and Tramonto (white frame, sunset-red mirror). The shield is one fixed piece, so the colourway you order is the finish you keep. The M08 with the Sunglasses lens is listed as a Full tint.
Can I get futuristic sunglasses with prescription lenses?
No, not from OXIVUE. None of our frames take prescription lenses, and the M14 shield is a fixed one-piece lens that cannot be swapped. Photochromic and clear lens options on the M08 are not prescription lenses either. If you need a prescription, check the maker's page of any pair you are considering before you order.

What these frames won’t do
- No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
- No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
- Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
- Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
- M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
- M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.
- M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
