Snap Specs 2026: the price, the ship window and what Snap has not said

Snap Specs 2026 raises two questions first: what do the glasses cost, and when do they arrive? This page sets out what Snap has announced for its consumer AR glasses, what only outlets have reported, and what no one has announced, with each fact sourced and dated October 31, 2026. It is a status page, not a review: we have not tested a pair.

1. Where Snap Specs stands on October 31, 2026

Snap Specs are announced, open for pre-order and, by Snap’s own wording, not yet shipping. Snap introduced them at Augmented World Expo on June 16, 2026 and opened pre-orders at specs.com the same day (Snap newsroom, checked October 31, 2026). Its September 16, 2026 launch-event post, listed in the newsroom on September 17, says shipping is “expected to begin later this fall” in the United States, the United Kingdom and France. The newest SPECS post we found on Snap’s newsroom, dated October 20, does not mention a ship date.

The table separates what is settled from what is not. “Announced” means Snap said it. “Reported” means a named outlet said it. “No announcement found” means we looked on October 31, 2026 and Snap’s pages did not say.

2. Price: $2,195, a $200 deposit and a $2,395 bundle

Snap Specs cost $2,195, according to Snap’s June 16, 2026 announcement, which says they are available to pre-order at specs.com with a $200 refundable deposit. 9to5Google (Ben Schoon, June 16, 2026) adds that the deposit counts toward the $2,195. The pre-order page says the deposit is not an order confirmation: you reserve a device now, Snap says it will reach out with next steps closer to the shipping window, and you are then asked to pay the remaining balance (specs.com, checked October 31, 2026).

The September post adds a second price. A Charging Case with Cellular is sold separately, and Snap says the SPECS Connected Case bundle will be available for $2,395. Snap’s post does not spell out what the bundle contains; UploadVR (David Heaney, September 20, 2026) reports it is a bundle with the cellular charging case, a $200 premium over the regular price, and that the cellular case is an upgrade to the included regular charging case. Snap says connected-wearable data plans are available from $10 a month for Verizon customers and from $20 a month for non-Verizon customers, that Verizon will offer eligible customers financing including a 36-month payment plan, and that data plans through Orange in France and EE in the UK come with “pricing details to come”. We found no Snap price in pounds or euros (checked October 31, 2026), so UK and French buyers should check specs.com for local pricing and for import taxes.

For scale, a display pair from another maker is covered in our Meta Ray-Ban Display guide, which records meta.com’s price with a date. We do not compare the two prices here, because the glasses do different things.

3. Release date: “later this fall” and no day

Snap has not given a release date for Specs; it has given a season. The June announcement said the glasses are expected to ship this fall in three countries. The September post said shipping is expected to begin later this fall. CNBC (Jonathan Vanian, June 16, 2026) reported the same window as later this year. UploadVR (David Heaney, September 20, 2026) reported that there was still no concrete ship date after the September launch event, and Snap’s October 20 post, about its honorary Chief Customer Experience Officer, does not mention one.

So the honest answer to “Snap Specs release date” on October 31, 2026 is: announced for fall 2026 in the US, UK and France, no day announced, and no announcement found that shipping has started. We do not offer a date, because Snap has not. If you pre-order, Snap says it will reach out with next steps closer to the shipping window and ask you to pay the remaining balance, so the date will matter at that point.

If you want to see a pair first, Snap’s September post says a SPECS First Look would open “beginning October 1” at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. specs.com says “starting October 2”; the two Snap pages differ by a day, and we did not check whether it is still running. Specs.com also offers a Virtual Try-On that needs an iPhone XS or later.

4. What Snap says is in the glasses

Every figure below is Snap’s, from its June 16, 2026 announcement, its September 16 post and specs.com (checked October 31, 2026). We have not measured any of it.

 Snap SPECS, per Snap
TypeFully standalone AR glasses, no puck or tether
DisplayWaveguide display using liquid crystal on silicon, 51-degree field of view, 16 million colours
Weight and sizes132 g (47 mm Narrow Fit) or 136 g (52 mm Wide Fit); swappable nose pads
FrameSwiss TR90 polymer
LensesElectrochromic, clear to tinted in 10 seconds; removable inserts for a wide range of prescriptions
ProcessorsTwo Snapdragon processors, one for computer vision and one for running Lenses
BatteryUp to 4 hours of mixed use; the charging case adds four charges, up to 20 hours in total
AudioCustom stereo speakers and six MEMS microphones in the temples
RecordingAn LED lights up when recording; camera specifications are not in Snap’s June 16 post
Price and countries$2,195 ($2,395 for the Connected Case bundle); pre-order in the US, UK and France, waitlist elsewhere

Two outlets add context. 9to5Google (June 16, 2026) says the “bulky, goggle-like design” comes from putting all the computing inside the glasses, with no external battery or puck. CNBC (June 16, 2026) says Specs are lighter than Snap’s earlier developer-focused Spectacles, and geared toward the broader public rather than developers. For Snap’s earlier models, see the history of smart glasses; for the developer-kit question, see Snap Spectacles alternatives.

5. SPECS Intelligence and the AI question

SPECS Intelligence is Snap’s AI service, introduced in its September post. Snap describes it as anticipatory: it builds context from the apps and tools you connect, then suggests actions before you ask. It works across iPhone, Mac and the glasses, where you trigger it by saying “Hey SPECS”; Snap says the glasses are optional.

Availability is staged (Snap, September 2026, checked October 31, 2026). There is a waitlist at specs.com/intelligence, full early access is by invitation through the SPECS Mac app, and a mobile preview in the SPECS iOS app is open to US users aged 18 and over, covering personal insights only. Snap’s post does not mention a price or subscription for it.

A natural question is which AI model sits underneath. Snap’s SPECS Intelligence post does not name an AI model or an outside AI provider (checked October 31, 2026). Snap’s June 16 announcement does name three AI coding tools, in a developer context: a developer preview of agentic development for building Lenses in Lens Studio, which Snap says is rolling out in Claude Code, Codex and Cursor and which CNBC describes as Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex and Cursor’s coding tools. That is about how Lenses get written, not a statement about what answers you when you speak to the glasses.

On privacy, Snap says Specs ask before accessing sensitive information and show an LED when recording. For SPECS Intelligence, Snap says the service is designed so Snap personnel cannot view or access the personal content you use with it, and that this content will not be used to train or fine-tune Snap’s AI models or to serve personalised ads. Those are the maker’s statements; we have not tested them.

6. Pre-ordering: countries, deposit and what to check

  • Countries. Pre-orders are open in the United States, the United Kingdom and France; elsewhere specs.com offers a waitlist (checked October 31, 2026).
  • Deposit. The $200 deposit is refundable, and specs.com says a pre-order can be cancelled before the order is completed, with the deposit refunded through its support address.
  • After delivery. specs.com lists a 14-day return period from receipt and a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Read those terms before the balance is due.
  • Running costs. Data plans for the cellular case are available from $10 a month for Verizon customers and from $20 for non-Verizon customers, per Snap. Orange and EE pricing was still to come.
  • Prescriptions. Snap says inserts are available but gives no range or price in the pages we read. Ask before you reserve if correction matters.
  • Teens.CNBC (June 16, 2026) reports that Snap’s CEO said Snap plans to release, later this year, tools to make it easier to share Specs with a teenager with a more limited set of Lenses. We found no later Snap announcement of them (checked October 31, 2026).

One more check: Snap’s wording moved from “this fall” in June to “later this fall” in September. Treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until a dated Snap statement gives one.

7. Where OXIVUE fits, and where it does not

OXIVUE publishes this page and sells the M08, so weigh this section accordingly. The M08 is not an alternative to Specs. Specs put a display in front of your eye; OXIVUE frames have no display, no AR and no prescription lenses. If what you want is a camera and open-ear audio in an ordinary-looking frame, the table shows how the two categories differ.

The M08 weighs about 42 g and comes in sun, photochromic and clear lenses, and its photochromic lens turns close to clear indoors. It has open-ear speakers and microphones, translation in 40+ languages through the free companion app, which also handles files, and no subscription. Be careful about recording: ask before you capture other people, and follow local law. For the wider choice, see AI glasses vs smart glasses vs AR glasses, smart glasses with a display, augmented-reality glasses and the AI glasses picked by need.

Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days. International orders take 9–14 business days after shipment. Import VAT or duties outside the US are paid by the recipient. No refunds except transit damage (replaced or refunded); faults are repaired or replaced under the 2-year warranty; change of mind and unmet expectations are not refundable. None of our frames take prescription lenses. See the shipping policy. Read the refund policy, or compare every model on the comparison page.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Snap Specs release date?

Snap has not announced a day. Its June 16, 2026 announcement said Specs are expected to ship this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom and France, and its September 16, 2026 launch-event post says shipping is expected to begin later this fall. We found no later Snap statement with a date (checked October 31, 2026), and UploadVR (David Heaney, September 20, 2026) reported that there was still no concrete ship date after the launch event. Pre-orders are open at specs.com in the meantime.

How much do Snap Specs cost?

$2,195 to pre-order, according to Snap. Pre-orders take a $200 refundable deposit (Snap newsroom, June 16, 2026), and 9to5Google reports that the deposit counts toward the price. Snap's September post prices its Connected Case bundle at $2,395 (UploadVR, September 20, 2026, reports it is a bundle with the cellular charging case, $200 above the base price), with data plans from $10 a month for Verizon customers and from $20 a month for others (checked October 31, 2026). We found no Snap price in pounds or euros.

Can you buy Snap Specs now?

As a pre-order. specs.com takes a refundable deposit in the United States, the United Kingdom and France and offers a waitlist elsewhere (checked October 31, 2026). The page says the deposit is not an order confirmation: Snap says it will reach out with next steps closer to the shipping window, when you are asked to pay the remaining balance, and you can cancel before the order is completed. Snap's wording is that shipping is expected to begin, and we found no announcement that it has.

Are there reviews of the Snap Specs?

There are hands-on previews, but we found no announcement that retail units have shipped. Google's results for this search on October 31, 2026 include hands-on articles and videos from several outlets. We have not summarised their verdicts here. Because Snap says shipping is still expected to begin, read these as hands-on previews and check each date against any shipping announcement.

Are Snap Specs AR glasses or smart glasses?

AR glasses. Snap describes them as standalone augmented reality glasses with a waveguide display and a 51-degree field of view, two Snapdragon processors and no puck or tether (Snap newsroom, June 16, 2026). Smart glasses without a display, which add a camera and speakers to an ordinary frame, are a different category with a different job. Our guide to AI glasses, smart glasses and AR glasses explains where the lines fall.

Do Snap Specs support prescription lenses?

Snap says yes. Its June 16, 2026 announcement says removable inserts support a wide range of prescriptions. The pages we read give no prescription range and no insert price (checked October 31, 2026), so ask specs.com before you reserve a pair if you need correction. Specs.com also lists two sizes, Narrow Fit at 47 mm and Wide Fit at 52 mm, with swappable nose pads.

How heavy are Snap Specs and how long does the battery last?

132 g in the 47 mm size and 136 g in the 52 mm size, with up to 4 hours of mixed use, per Snap (checked October 31, 2026). Snap says the charging case adds four charges, up to 20 hours in total. 9to5Google (June 16, 2026) reports 4 hours of continuous power and says you can plug the glasses in while in use to extend it. These are Snap's figures, not ours; we have not tested a pair.

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
