How to connect Meta glasses to an iPhone, and what to do when they won’t
The search results for this question are support threads: glasses that will not pair, an iPhone that shows them in Bluetooth but the app does not, a second phone that refuses them. This page puts Meta's own pairing, setup, troubleshooting and reset instructions in one place, quoted from its help center and dated, so you can work through them in order.

1. Before you start: the three requirements
Every step on this page is taken from Meta’s help center and the App Store, read on October 7, 2026. Meta updates these pages, so if a button or menu name has moved, its help center is the final word. Three things have to be true before the glasses will pair with an iPhone at all.
- The iPhone must run iOS 17.2 or later. That is the requirement the Meta AI app lists on the App Store (checked October 7, 2026). The app was called Meta View until it was renamed; the related search “Meta View” still leads to the same app. Our Meta glasses app guide covers what the app does once you are in.
- You need the app, on a phone.Meta’s setup page says the Meta AI app “is only available on mobile devices and is required to support your glasses experience.” There is no Mac or web route to pairing.
- You need a Meta Account.Meta’s account page states “You need a Meta Account to use your AI glasses,” and that you can set one up with an email address, Instagram or Facebook if you do not have one. You must be at least 13 in most regions. The glasses “can only pair with one valid Meta Account at a time.”
Two practical points from the same pages: turn Bluetooth on in the iPhone’s settings before you open the app, and charge the glasses first. Meta’s troubleshooting page asks for at least one hour on charge, or until the case LED is green, before you attempt a pairing.
2. How to pair Meta glasses with an iPhone
This is Meta’s pairing procedure for Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta glasses, from its page “How to pair and unpair AI glasses with the Meta AI app” (checked October 7, 2026). The important habit is that pairing starts inside the app. The iPhone’s own Bluetooth menu is not where you add the glasses, and doing it from there is the most common reason a pairing half-works.
- Install and sign in. Download the Meta AI app from the App Store and log in with your Meta Account, or create one when prompted.
- Switch the glasses on. Take them out of the case and slide the power button on the left frame towards the front.
- Put them back in the case.Meta’s wording is to place the glasses back inside the case, “making sure to gently push down on the top.”
- Wait for the blue LED. When the case LED begins flashing blue the glasses are in pairing mode. If it does not start on its own, press and hold the button on the back of the case for at least 5 seconds.
- Add them in the app. In the Meta AI app tap Glasses in the top right, then Add in the top right, and follow the on-screen steps.
Once paired, the glasses reconnect to the app on their own after a restart, which is worth knowing before you assume a brief disconnection is a fault.
3. When Meta glasses won’t pair with the iPhone
The threads that rank for this search describe the same handful of symptoms: the glasses show in the iPhone’s Bluetooth list but not in the app, the app says “reconnect your phone,” or nothing happens when the case button is held. Meta’s page “How to fix pairing issues with AI glasses” (checked October 7, 2026) gives a fixed order of checks. Work through it top to bottom rather than jumping to a reset.
- Update the app.Meta’s first check is that the Meta AI app on your phone is up to date.
- Bluetooth on, and Wi-Fi active. The page asks for both, which surprises people who expect Bluetooth alone to be enough for a pairing.
- Charge for an hour.“Your AI glasses have charged for at least one hour, or until the charging case LED is green.”
- Glasses on and in the case. Then hold the pairing button on the back of the case for 5 seconds and release it when the case LED pulses blue.
- Forget the old Bluetooth entry. If the glasses appear in the iPhone’s Bluetooth connections, Meta says to forget that connection and pair again from the app. A stale entry from an earlier attempt blocks the new one.
- Reinstall the app. If the glasses still will not pair, delete the Meta AI app from the phone and install it again.
- Factory reset. If they still will not pair, “or if they were previously paired to a different phone,” factory reset the glasses. The steps are in section 5.
One extra symptom has its own fix: if the LED on the glasses blinks white continuously while you are pairing, Meta says to force restart the glasses and then start pairing again. The force restart is also in section 5.
4. Switching to another iPhone, or handing the glasses on
Two situations get mixed up in the forum threads. The first is a new phone for the same owner. The second is a new owner. Meta treats them differently, because the glasses are bound to an account rather than to a handset.
Same Meta Account, new iPhone.Install the Meta AI app on the new phone, sign in with the same account, and run the pairing steps in section 2. Meta’s troubleshooting page adds that if the glasses were previously paired to a different phone and refuse the new one, a factory reset clears it.
New owner.Meta’s setup page is explicit: the glasses “can only pair with one valid Meta Account at a time,” and “you’ll need to factory reset your glasses before someone else can pair them to their account.” So if you are selling or giving away a pair, import your photos and videos first, factory reset the glasses, and then the next person pairs them to their own account. If you are the buyer of a second-hand pair that will not pair, this is almost always why.
5. How to restart and factory reset Meta glasses
Meta gives three levels, each on its own help page (checked October 7, 2026). Use the mildest one that fixes the problem, because the last one wipes the glasses.
Restart
From “How to restart AI glasses”: slide the power button back to power the glasses off, wait a few seconds, then slide it forward to turn them back on. They reconnect to the app automatically.
Force restart
From the same page: power the glasses off with the power button, press and hold the capture button, and while holding it slide the power button forward to turn the glasses on. Release the capture button as soon as the status LED turns red. If the LED does not turn red, slide the power button back and repeat. This is the fix Meta gives for the white-blinking LED during pairing.
Factory reset the glasses
From “How to factory reset AI glasses and charging case.” Before you do it, read the warning on that page: “It deletes all the photos and videos on your glasses, and you’ll need to pair your glasses with the Meta AI app again afterwards.” Import anything you want to keep first.
- Make sure the glasses are out of the case, charged, and powered on.
- Fold both arms closed.
- With the arms folded, press the capture button 5 times. The LED turns orange.
- Press and hold the capture button, and release it when the LED flashes.
- Open the Meta AI app and pair the glasses again from the Glasses tab.
Factory reset the charging case
If the case itself misbehaves, for example the LED never flashes blue, remove the glasses and press and hold the button on the back of the case for more than 16 seconds.
6. If you are still deciding: pairing without a Meta account
A short aside for readers who landed here before buying. Everything above assumes you are willing to hold a Meta Account, because Meta glasses cannot be set up without one. If that is the sticking point, camera-and-audio glasses on a different companion app exist. OXIVUE frames pair through the free HeyCyan app, which needs its own HeyCyan log-in but no Meta or social-media account. The table compares the setup requirements only; it is not a feature comparison, and our HeyCyan guidehas the app’s own eight setup steps and fixes.
| Setup requirement | Meta glasses (Meta help pages, checked Oct 7, 2026) | OXIVUE M08 (HeyCyan app) |
|---|---|---|
| Companion app | Meta AI app, required, mobile only | HeyCyan app, required for translation, assistant and file import |
| Account | Meta Account (email, Instagram or Facebook); one valid account at a time | HeyCyan log-in; no Meta or social-media account |
| iPhone minimum | iOS 17.2 or later (App Store listing) | iOS 13.0 or later (App Store listing, checked Oct 7, 2026) |
| Pairing | From the app, glasses in the case, case LED flashing blue | From the app over Bluetooth 5.4 |
| Price | Not quoted here; see meta.com | $99 at checkout (listed $149) |
Prices checked 2026-10-07; checkout price may change. The OXIVUE M08 has an 8 MP camera set in the frame corner, open-ear speakers, about 42 g on the face, and 7 hours of listening or 4 hours of calls; captures start with a visible touch on the temple. It comes in sun, photochromic or clear lenses, has no display and takes no prescription lenses, and it has no published water rating. Translation runs through the HeyCyan app in 40+ languages, with the translated audio heard only by the wearer and the other person reading the reply on your phone. If the account question is what you are weighing, read smart glasses without a Meta account before you decide, and compare every OXIVUE frame on the comparison page.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my Meta glasses connect to my phone?
Meta's pairing-issues page (checked October 7, 2026) lists the usual causes in order: the Meta AI app is out of date, Bluetooth is off or the phone has no Wi-Fi, the glasses have not charged for at least an hour, or they are not switched on and sitting in the case. Then hold the case button for 5 seconds until the LED pulses blue, forget any old entry in the iPhone's Bluetooth list, and pair from the app rather than from Settings. If that fails, reinstall the app, and if it still fails, factory reset the glasses.
How do I connect my Meta glasses to my other phone?
Meta says the glasses pair with one valid Meta Account at a time and that a factory reset is needed before someone else can pair them to their account (checked October 7, 2026). To move your own glasses to a new iPhone under the same account, install the Meta AI app on the new phone, sign in, put the glasses in the case and add them from the Glasses tab. If they were previously paired to a different phone and refuse to pair, Meta's troubleshooting page says to factory reset them first.
How do Meta glasses interact with an iPhone?
Through the Meta AI app over Bluetooth. Meta's setup page says the app is only available on mobile devices and is required to support the glasses, so there is no way to use them from a Mac or from the web. The app handles pairing, settings and software updates, and the photos and videos the glasses capture are brought across to the phone through it. A factory reset deletes the captures still on the glasses, so import before you reset.
Do Meta glasses pair with Apple devices?
Yes, with an iPhone. The Meta AI app on the App Store lists iOS 17.2 or later as its requirement (checked October 7, 2026), and Meta's own pages describe pairing from the Meta AI app on an iPhone. Pairing happens inside the app, not from the iPhone's Bluetooth settings, and Meta's troubleshooting page tells you to forget the glasses in Bluetooth settings if they show up there before pairing again.
How do I reset Meta glasses?
Meta gives two levels (checked October 7, 2026). A restart: slide the power button back, wait a few seconds, slide it forward. A factory reset: with the glasses out of the case, charged and on, fold both arms, press the capture button five times until the LED turns orange, then press and hold it and release when the LED flashes. The factory reset deletes all photos and videos on the glasses and you pair again afterwards. The charging case resets separately by holding its back button for more than 16 seconds.
Do I need a Meta or Facebook account to set up Meta glasses?
Yes. Meta's account page says you need a Meta Account to use the glasses, and you can create one with an email address, Instagram or Facebook; you must be at least 13 in most regions (checked October 7, 2026). The glasses hold one valid Meta Account at a time. If an account requirement is what is holding you back, our guide to smart glasses without a Meta account covers the alternatives.
What if I would rather pair camera glasses without a Meta account?
OXIVUE frames pair through the free HeyCyan app instead. It needs its own HeyCyan log-in but no Meta or social-media account, and its App Store listing states iOS 13.0 or later (checked October 7, 2026). The OXIVUE M08 is $99 at checkout (listed $149), with an 8 MP camera, open-ear audio and Bluetooth 5.4, and it comes in sun, photochromic or clear lenses. It has no display and does not take prescription lenses.
What these frames won’t do
- No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
- No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
- Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
- Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
- M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
