The best smart glasses in the UK, ranked with prices in pounds

Every UK round-up for this search leads with Meta, then pads the list with display glasses that do a different job. This shortlist separates the two, reads each price from the maker's own UK page on a stated date, and then explains how an OXIVUE pair ordered in dollars is priced and taxed for a UK address.

1. Three kinds of smart glasses, one search term

Run this search from the UK and page one is PCMag UK, Wareable, Digital Camera World, Tom’s Guide and Android Central, followed by Meta’s own UK store, Ray-Ban, Amazon UK and a Currys category page. Read the lists side by side and they mix three products that do not compete with each other:

  • Camera AI glasses. A camera in the frame corner, open-ear speakers, microphones and a voice assistant. Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and OXIVUE sit here. No display.
  • Display glasses. A screen in front of each eye, wired or paired to a phone, laptop or console. Viture and RayNeo rank for this term in the UK. They are built for films and games rather than for filming.
  • Audio-only frames. Speakers in the temples and nothing else. Useful, but a different purchase.

A ranked list is only useful once you know which of the three you are buying. The shortlist below is sorted that way, and every UK price in it was read from the maker’s own page on October 7, 2026. We have not tested the other brands hands-on and do not pretend to; where we could not read an official price, we say so rather than guess.

Prices checked 2026-10-07; checkout price may change.Meta’s UK hub page lists the whole range as starting at £224, while its Meta Glasses line page shows £229; both figures were read on the same day and the difference is Meta’s to explain. The numbering is by category and price, not a test score: we have not worn the Meta or display frames, so we rank only on what each maker publishes. For a deeper look at the Meta range see Meta glasses prices, and for the whole field sorted by need see the best AI glasses of 2026.

The budget end of the UK results is unbranded Amazon listings promising a camera, translation and calls for a fraction of Meta’s price. We do not quote them because we could not verify a single specification against a maker’s page. If you buy one, treat the listing as the only documentation you will get.

3. OXIVUE in the UK: dollars, VAT and delivery time

OXIVUE sells in US dollars and ships to 39 countries, the United Kingdom among them. A single pair costs $99 for the M08 and $149 for the M14 at checkout; two or more pairs in one order are 50% off all eyewear. Shipping is free from $99, so every single pair qualifies. Your card issuer converts the dollar total to pounds at its own rate on the day.

Three things decide what you actually pay at the door, and the honest version is this:

  • The £135 rule. GOV.UK states that for goods worth £135 or less the seller includes VAT in the price, and that above £135 you pay VAT to the delivery company before delivery. It also lists no customs duty on non-excise goods worth £135 or less.
  • What OXIVUE does and does not add. No VAT is added at checkout for any country, so do not assume the dollar total already includes UK VAT. The standard UK rate is 20% (GOV.UK, checked October 7, 2026). Any import VAT, duty or handling fee the carrier asks for on delivery is payable by the recipient. Our EU and UK cost guide walks through the same question for every European country.
  • Delivery time. International orders typically take 9–14 business days after shipment, and the shipping email carries the tracking link. UK customs handling can add days at the end; that is the realistic window, not next-day.

Refunds are the other thing to read before you order rather than after. No refunds except transit damage (replaced or refunded); faults are repaired or replaced under the 2-year warranty; change of mind and unmet expectations are not refundable. UK consumer law gives distance buyers statutory rights that sit on top of that policy; the refund policy page sets them out.

4. Which pair for which use

Two OXIVUE frames make sense for most UK buyers, and they are not interchangeable.

M08 ($99 at checkout): everyday, commuting, driving, walking

The M08 is an ordinary-looking pair of glasses with an 8 MP camera set flush in the frame corner, open-ear speakers and microphones, weighing about 42 g and rated 7 hours of listening or 4 hours of calls. A touch on the temple starts a photo or a clip; nothing records unless you start it. It pairs with the free HeyCyan app over Bluetooth 5.4, which handles translation in 40+ languages, the assistant and your files. There is no subscription.

The lens choice matters more in Britain than in California. The Sunglasses lens is right for summer and driving in low sun. The Clear lens makes it a camera-and-audio frame you can wear indoors, on the Tube and through a grey November. The Photochromic lens darkens in UV light and lightens again inside, which suits a day that swings between the two. The M08 has no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain.

M14 ($149 at checkout): cycling, running, skiing

The M14 is a different object: a 52 g wrap shield rated IPX4 against splash and rain, with a Sony IMX219 8 MP sensor and 139 languages of translation in the app. Its battery is weighted the other way, 4 hours of listening or 7 hours of calls, and the one-piece lens is fixed, in Nero, Azzurro, Ghiaccio or Tramonto, so there is no clear or photochromic version. It is the pair for a towpath commute, a club ride or a week in the Alps, and the wrong pair for the office. Compare both line by line on the comparison page.

If what you want is a screen in your lens, neither of these is it, and nor is any camera frame from Meta. Read smart glasses with a display instead.

5. Where to buy smart glasses in the UK

  • Meta’s range.Sold direct at meta.com/gb, which is where every price above was read. The UK results on October 7, 2026 also surfaced ray-ban.com, a Currys AI-glasses category page showing the Ray-Ban Meta line; we could not read Currys’ prices (its site refused our request), so compare in person.
  • Display glasses.Amazon UK’s wearable-tech bestseller list and the brands’ own stores ranked for this search. Check the return terms of the retailer, not the brand, before buying a screen you have never tried on.
  • OXIVUE. Direct from oxivue.com, priced in dollars, shipped to the UK with no UK VAT added at checkout. There is no UK retailer, no Amazon listing and no showroom, which is part of why the price is where it is.

6. Check these before you order

  • Prescription. No OXIVUE frame takes prescription lenses. If you wear glasses to see, these are a second pair for specific moments, not a replacement.
  • Display. There is none. You hear answers and capture photos and video; nothing appears in your view.
  • Translation. It needs your phone nearby and a data or Wi-Fi connection. Only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone, and translation pauses after each sentence. Our translation page shows exactly how it works.
  • Recording people. The camera starts with a visible touch on the temple and nothing records unless you start it. UK data-protection law and the rules of the venue you are in still apply, so ask before you film someone. See are smart glasses legal in Europe for the UK and EU picture. This is general information, not legal advice.
  • Meta comparison. If you are weighing an OXIVUE pair against a Ray-Ban Meta, our Ray-Ban Meta alternatives guide lists the differences feature by feature, including the things Meta does that we do not.

Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days; international orders, including the UK, take 9–14 business days. Prices are in US dollars and exclude import VAT and duties, which are payable by the recipient. OXIVUE does not offer refunds except for an order damaged in transit, which is replaced or refunded. Faults after delivery are covered by the 2-year warranty through repair or replacement. None of our frames take prescription lenses. Read the shipping policy and compare every model on the comparison page.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best smart glasses on the market?

There is no single answer, because the category covers three different products. Camera AI glasses (Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, OXIVUE) put a camera, open-ear speakers and a voice assistant in a normal-looking frame. Display glasses (Viture, RayNeo) are wearable screens for films and games and usually have no camera. Audio-only frames just play sound. Decide which job you want done before you compare prices; the ranked list above is sorted by that, with UK prices read on October 7, 2026.

What are the best AI glasses in the UK?

If you want Meta's assistant and ecosystem, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at £409 and the Meta Glasses line at £229 on meta.com/gb (checked October 7, 2026). If you want a camera and open-ear audio with a free app and no subscription at a lower price, the OXIVUE M08 is $99 at checkout and ships to the UK; the M14 wrap shield is $149. No UK VAT is added at checkout; see GOV.UK's £135 rule for what applies to your order.

Are any smart glasses worth it?

They are worth it when you have a repeat use: filming what you see with your hands busy, taking calls on a bike or a walk, or translating a conversation when you travel. They are not worth it if you expect a screen in the lens from a camera frame, if you need prescription lenses (no OXIVUE frame takes them), or if you want earbuds that block out a train. Match the frame to the job and the answer is usually yes; buy on novelty and it is usually no.

Can you watch Netflix on smart glasses?

That needs display glasses, which put a screen in front of your eyes and plug into a phone, laptop or console; Viture and RayNeo are the names that ranked in the UK on October 7, 2026. Camera AI glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta or any OXIVUE frame have no display at all. You hear audio and capture photos and video, but nothing is shown in your view, so they are the wrong buy for films on a flight.

What are the best budget smart glasses in the UK?

Below Meta's £229 starting price the UK market is mostly unbranded Amazon listings, and their specifications are hard to verify. OXIVUE is a US-dollar brand that sells direct: the M08 camera sunglasses are $99 at checkout with an 8 MP camera, open-ear audio, a 7-hour listening battery and a choice of sun, photochromic or clear lens. Shipping to the UK is free from $99 and takes 9–14 business days after shipment; no UK VAT is added at checkout, and any import charge the carrier asks for on delivery is payable by the recipient.

Are there Ray-Ban Meta alternatives sold in the UK?

Yes, in two directions. Within Meta's own range the Oakley Meta HSTN starts at £399 and the Meta Glasses line at £229 (meta.com/gb, October 7, 2026). Outside it, OXIVUE ships camera glasses to the UK at $99 to $149 at checkout, paired with the free HeyCyan app over Bluetooth 5.4 with no subscription. Our Ray-Ban Meta alternatives guide compares them feature by feature; the trade-off is a smaller app ecosystem for a much lower price.

Do I pay VAT and customs on smart glasses ordered from outside the UK?

GOV.UK says that for goods worth £135 or less the seller includes VAT, and above £135 you pay VAT to the delivery company before delivery; non-excise goods worth £135 or less carry no customs duty. OXIVUE prices are in US dollars and exclude import taxes, and no VAT is added at checkout, so do not assume the dollar total already includes UK VAT; any import charge the carrier asks for on delivery is payable by the recipient. Our EU and UK cost guide walks through the arithmetic.

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M08: no published water rating, so keep it out of heavy rain and spray.
  • M14: one-piece shield, so the lens can't be swapped for clear or photochromic.
  • M14: IPX4 covers splash, spray and rain only, and at 52 g it is heavier than the 41–42 g frames.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
