Android XR glasses: which kind you can order, and what is only announced

“Android XR glasses” covers wired glasses you can order now, audio glasses that are announced but not yet on sale, and display glasses Google lists as “Stay tuned”, all on the same platform as a headset. This guide sorts them using Google's own pages and the makers' pages, read on October 31, 2026, and says which prices and dates exist and which are still reports. Where Google or the maker has not said, we write that instead of guessing.

1. What Android XR is, and what “Android XR glasses” can mean

Android XR is an operating system, not a single product. Google’s Android XR page answers “What is Android XR?” with “an operating system for extended reality devices”, gives headsets and glasses as examples, and says it provides “AI assistance from Gemini” to these devices (checked October 31, 2026). Its fine print says setup is required and that compatibility and availability vary.

Google’s developer page sorts the devices into four groups: XR headsets and wired XR glasses, which it pairs under “immersive experiences”, and audio glasses and display glasses, which it pairs under “lightweight, additive experiences” for everyday life on the go, at home or at work (checked October 31, 2026). So a search for Android XR glasses can mean three different things:

  • Wired XR glasses.Google’s developer pages put them with the headsets under immersive experiences. XREAL AURA, the pair Google has launched, has transparent lenses and connects by cable to a portable compute puck.
  • Audio glasses.Google’s design page describes them as built around “hands-free, natural language interactions” with audio guidance. Google’s Android XR page lists Search, Navigate, Capture and Translate for them.
  • Display glasses.Audio plus “subtle, glanceable visuals”, in the words of the same design page.

The Samsung Galaxy XR is none of these. It is the headset, and Google’s page calls it the first device on the platform. Its price is for a different kind of product from any glasses.

2. Released vs announced: what each kind looks like on October 31, 2026

Of the three glasses kinds, one was open for orders on October 31, 2026: Google’s page says XREAL AURA “is here”, while it marks audio glasses “Coming soon” and display glasses “Stay tuned”. The table puts each device next to what Google or its maker says, with the status word we use through this page: announced (a maker said it), reported (an outlet said it) or no announcement found.

Google’s page adds a general line, “Other devices will be available later 2026”, with no names or dates. For what Google confirmed at I/O 2026 and the frames you can buy now, our Google AI glasses alternatives guide is the companion read; this page is the October status check.

3. XREAL AURA: Android XR glasses open for orders

XREAL AURA is wired and display-first. Google’s October 28, 2026 post calls it “wired XR glasses”: they connect by cable to a portable compute puck that holds the battery and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform, weigh “under 95 grams”, have transparent lenses and a 70-degree field of view, and can dim the lenses to fade out the world around you, with a display the post says is “visible only to you”. The post gives launch pricing starting at $1,099 through the end of the year.

The same post says Gemini “understands what you’re seeing and doing” in the real world and on your screens, that a laptop can mirror to the glasses over a USB-C cable with no software to install, and that the product is for people 18 and older, with setup and a compatible account required. Orders opened October 28 in the US, Canada and Korea and will open in Japan on November 2; US buyers can also order through BestBuy.com, and shipments are expected to start in mid-November. Road to VR (October 28, 2026) reported the same first markets and mid-November shipping, and wrote that expanded retail availability will come in 2027, attributing it to “the company”; the Google post does not mention 2027 (checked October 31, 2026).

That is a different job from everyday glasses with a speaker and a camera. The Google post describes spatial video, games and a mirrored laptop window in your view. Google’s developer page puts the audio and display glasses, not AURA, under “lightweight, additive experiences” (checked October 31, 2026). Our XREAL alternatives guide sorts display glasses of this kind from camera-and-audio glasses.

4. Audio glasses: announced, reported, and not found

The audio glasses have a season and, on the pages we read, no price. Announced: Google’s Android XR page says the first collections of audio glasses “will be launching this fall”, shows Gentle Monster and Warby Parker cards under a “Google | Samsung” logo, and describes Gemini helping you get directions, hear a summary of your messages, remember details or capture photos “without ever taking out your phone” (checked October 31, 2026).

Gentle Monster’s own page (checked October 31, 2026) says its debut collection is “arriving this fall”, calls it a collaboration with Google and Samsung, gives up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge and says it is compatible with Android and iOS devices, adding that some features require setup or subscription. It does not name Android XR, and it has an email sign-up and no buy button. Warby Parker’s page returned an access error when we tried to read it, so we describe it only through its card on Google’s page.

Reported, not announced: on October 31, 2026 GSMArena reported, citing a Korean-language report on biz.chosun.com (October 30), that Samsung’s glasses would go on sale in mid-December, in South Korea and the US first, with the price not yet decided. The article describes frames designed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker that have no display but do have a camera, microphones and speakers. GSMArena tags it as a rumour and refers to an earlier Korean report that cited a Samsung official for November. The two reports name different months, and neither is a published statement from Google, Samsung or the design houses.

No announcement found (checked October 31, 2026): a price on Google’s page or Gentle Monster’s page, or a phone-compatibility list or Google-account requirement on Google’s page. For what Samsung has said in its own newsroom, see our Samsung glasses guide, and for the brand view our Gentle Monster guide.

5. Display glasses: what Google has actually said

Display glasses are, so far, a category label on Google’s page. Google’s Android XR page marks them “Stay tuned” with three use labels, Navigate, Translate and Help. No announcement found (checked October 31, 2026) of a partner, a price or a date.

The developer pages show the direction without a schedule. Google’s design page says display glasses add visuals only when relevant, and the developer page describes Jetpack Compose Glimmer as a design system for see-through displays on display glasses and wired XR glasses. Neither page carries a launch label or date for glasses. If you want a screen in your view today, wired glasses like AURA are the Android XR glasses you can order; other makers sell display glasses of their own, and our display glasses guide and augmented reality glasses guide sort the types.

6. How to read an Android XR glasses price or release date

Trust a price only if it comes from Google or the maker. The only Android XR glasses price we found on a Google or maker page was the starting launch price of $1,099 for AURA. For the audio glasses we found no price announcement (checked October 31, 2026), so a figure you see is not from Google or the makers unless it quotes them; treat it as an estimate. A few checks help:

  • Look for the verb.“Is here” with a Buy now link is a product you can order. “Coming soon”, “this fall” and “Stay tuned” are not dates.
  • Ask who said it. A mid-December release for the Samsung glasses is, today, a Korean-language report, relayed by GSMArena.
  • Check the product type. A headset from $1,799.99, a pair of wired glasses from $1,099 and audio glasses with no price announcement found are different products, so a table that ranks them together is comparing unlike things.
  • Re-read on the day you buy.Every figure on this page is dated October 31, 2026, and Google’s post describes AURA’s $1,099 as launch pricing, so confirm the current price on the maker’s page.

7. If you want camera-and-audio glasses today: OXIVUE, which is not Android XR

OXIVUE glasses are a separate product line that you can order now, not an Android XR device and not a stand-in for one. The M02Cis $109 at checkout (listed $159): an 8 MP Sony IMX219 camera with dual stabilisation, open-ear speakers, about 41 g, IP65 for dust and water jets (not immersion), and magnetic pogo charging. OXIVUE lists 7 hours of listening and 4 hours of calls for it, and its voice-activated visual assistant can describe what you are looking at. OXIVUE does not publish which AI model powers the M02C’s voice-activated visual assistant.

What it does not do matters here. There is no display, so nothing appears in your view. Frames take no prescription lenses. Translation covers 40+ languages through the free companion app on a phone that is nearby and connected, pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on the phone. Captures start only with a touch on the temple, so ask before you record people. For phone pairing on Android, see smart glasses for Android; for every frame side by side, see the comparison page.

Shipping, refunds and warranty. Free shipping from $99. US orders typically arrive in 5–9 business days. Frequently asked questions

What are Android XR glasses?

Glasses built for Google's Android XR operating system, which Google's developer page sorts into three kinds: wired XR glasses, audio glasses and display glasses. XREAL AURA, the wired pair Google has launched, connects by cable to a portable compute puck (Google, October 28, 2026). Google's design page describes audio glasses as offering audio guidance and display glasses as adding "subtle, glanceable visuals". The Samsung Galaxy XR is a headset on the same platform, not glasses. Google's Android XR page gives these devices different status labels (checked October 31, 2026).

Can you buy Android XR glasses yet?

One kind, yes. Google's Android XR page says XREAL AURA, wired XR glasses, "is here", and Google's October 28, 2026 post says orders opened that day in the US, Canada and Korea, with Japan following on November 2 and shipments expected from mid-November. The audio glasses are labelled "Coming soon" and the display glasses "Stay tuned", and neither Google's page nor Gentle Monster's page offers a way to buy them (checked October 31, 2026).

How much do Android XR glasses cost?

$1,099 is the only glasses price we found on a Google or maker page, and it is a starting price: launch pricing for XREAL AURA starts there and runs through the end of the year, per Google's October 28, 2026 post. No announcement found (checked October 31, 2026) of a price for the audio glasses or the display glasses; Google's page and Gentle Monster's page list none, and GSMArena, citing a Korean report, says pricing for Samsung's glasses has not been decided (reported, not confirmed by a maker). The Galaxy XR headset is listed from $1,799.99 on Samsung's US site.

What is the Android XR glasses release date?

Orders for XREAL AURA opened October 28, 2026, with shipments expected from mid-November (announced). Audio glasses: Google says "this fall" and gives no day (announced); GSMArena reported on October 31, 2026, citing a Korean-language report (biz.chosun.com, October 30), that Samsung's glasses go on sale in mid-December, in South Korea and the US first (reported, not confirmed by a maker). Display glasses: no announcement found of any date (checked October 31, 2026).

Is the Samsung Galaxy XR a pair of Android XR glasses?

No. The Galaxy XR is a headset, and Google's Android XR page calls it the first device on the platform and says it is "available now". Samsung's US page lists it from $1,799.99 (checked October 31, 2026). Google's developer page groups it with the wired XR glasses under immersive experiences, and groups the audio and display glasses as lighter, everyday experiences. Its price is not evidence of what the glasses will cost.

Do Android XR glasses work with iPhone?

For Gentle Monster's pair, yes by its own page, which says its intelligent eyewear is compatible with Android and iOS devices but does not name Android XR (checked October 31, 2026). Google's Android XR page (checked October 31, 2026) does not describe a phone-compatibility list, and its fine print says compatibility and availability vary. Google's XREAL AURA post describes a laptop connecting over USB-C, does not mention a phone, and lists a compatible account as a requirement. Read the maker's page for the exact pair before you order.

Do Android XR glasses have a display?

Some do. Wired XR glasses such as XREAL AURA have transparent lenses and a display that Google says is "visible only to you", with a 70-degree field of view (Google, October 28, 2026). Google's design page describes display glasses as combining audio with "subtle, glanceable visuals" and audio glasses as offering audio guidance. Google's Android XR page lists Search, Navigate, Capture and Translate under the audio glasses; its text does not say whether they have a display, and one Navigate image caption says a response "pops up" (checked October 31, 2026).

What these frames won’t do

  • No prescription lenses yet, on any model. If you need vision correction all day, these can't replace your glasses.
  • No display. Nothing appears in your view; you hear answers and capture photos and video.
  • Open-ear speakers leak some sound at high volume and won't block out a loud train or a windy road the way sealed earbuds do.
  • Translation, music, calls and the assistant need your phone nearby and connected. Translation pauses after each sentence, and only you hear the translated audio; the other person reads the reply on your phone.
  • M02C: IP65 resists dust and water jets, not immersion. No swimming, no saltwater.

Check these before you order: see the warranty and refund policy.
