Christmas gifts for your wife, sorted by what she loves doing

1. Start with her, not with a list of gifts for women

10. Before you buy glasses: who they are not for, and delivery

Camera sunglasses are the wrong gift for a wife who needs prescription glasses all day or doesn’t want another app on her phone. Check these before you order:

• No prescription lenses, on any model. Frames sit over contact lenses the way ordinary sunglasses do; see prescription smart glasses for the workarounds.
• No display. Nothing appears in her view; she hears answers and music and captures photos and video.
• Phone required. Translation, music, calls, the assistant and getting photos off the glasses need her phone nearby and the free HeyCyan app.
• Open-ear sound.Some sound leaks at high volume, and they won’t block out a windy street the way sealed earbuds do.
• Consent. Captures start only with a visible touch on the temple. Recording people, especially audio, can require their consent depending on where she is.
