Most buying guides rank smart glasses on one line from cheap to expensive. That framing is wrong here. Assistant-only glasses and camera glasses are two different products that happen to share a form factor, and the choice between them is not about budget:

• Assistant-only — a voice assistant, open-ear speakers, microphones. The glasses can hear the room. They cannot see it, and no update changes that.
• Assistant plus camera — everything above, plus an image sensor. Now the glasses can capture, and on frames like ours, understand what you are looking at.

If you have already decided you do not want a lens on your face, no amount of capability makes a camera frame the right buy. What you gain, and what it costs

Structural differences only. Assistant-only pricing and specs shift with each generation; the presence or absence of a sensor does not.

The etiquette cost is real. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t.

A camera on your face changes rooms. People notice, and they are entitled to. Our view is that this is a genuine cost of the category rather than a marketing objection to be handled: if you would be uncomfortable telling the person across the table that your glasses can capture, that discomfort is information. Assistant-only glasses do not carry it, and for a lot of buyers that is worth more than any spec.

Stay with assistant-only if…

• You want all-day battery more than you want capture.
• You live inside one smart-home ecosystem and want the assistant to match it.
• The idea of a lens on your face bothers you — trust that instinct.

Move to a camera frame if the reason you started shopping was a moment you missed, if you work or travel across languages (see the travel guide and the translation guide), or if you want visual AI, which simply requires a sensor.

Bottom line

Do not buy camera glasses to replace assistant glasses, or the reverse — they answer different questions. If capture is the point, the M08 at $149 is the cheapest honest entry and the M02C at $159 is the most complete.
